Wilma Jean Sookocheff

October 19, 1932 — August 25, 2025

It is with profound sadness that, on the evening of August 25, 2025, Wilma left us to join her children Glen, Jim, and Laurie, her grandson Adam and her sisters, Ellen, Donna and Myrtle. Wilma was just shy of her 93rd birthday.

Wilma was born to Len and Ruth Edwards on October 19, 1932 in Arborfield, Saskatchewan. The family later moved to Tisdale, Prince Albert, and then finally settling in Saskatoon. Wilma spent most of her childhood and young adulthood helping her mother with her siblings (Ellen, Donnie, Myrtle, and Eldon) or looking after elderly people in their nursing home. She also worked at Safeway.

Wilma married Bill Currie in 1951 and together they had four children, William James (Jim)(Leslie), Laurie Joy (Darryl), Glen Eldon, and Leslie Roy (Vikki). They lived in Young, Saskatchewan. Wilma spent her time raising their children, working on the farm, looking after the yard, and baking for school lunches. As the kids became more independent, she got a job working at Noranda Mine, Colonsay where she worked for 18 years.

It was there that she met her husband, John Sookocheff. Wilma and John married in 1986. They enjoyed camping, spent many winters in the States and took a trip to Alaska. They were part of Good Sams and loved going to Red Deer every July to attend the Southern Gospel Jamboree. They would always continue travelling to Calgary to see Laurie and Darryl, Regan and boys, and Adam and then head out to Salmon Arm to see Jim, Leslie and Anthony.

She loved to do all crafts. She also loved to read and spend time outdoors. Most of all her greatest love was her children, grandchildren (Regan (Joey), Adam, Anthony, Danielle, Nicole (Ward), Graeme (Jessica) & Glen (Kathleen) and great-grandchildren (Tanner, Kane, Lincoln, Aiden, Cash, Brynlee, Nicklas, Everly, Arwen, Henry, Adley, Wren, and Weston). She attended their activities never missing piano and band recitals, track, volleyball, curling or whatever activity they participated in.

Although Wilma’s life was not easy, she never complained, especially near the end. Everyone who knew her would attest to her gentle and caring nature. Wilma was a very special lady. She was loved by everyone she met. We are thankful for the care she received at Saskatoon Shines and for the special friendship she had with Anna. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Wilma had a strong Christian faith and looked forward to the day when she would be back with her creator. Although life without Mom, Grandma, and Great Gammy will not be easy for us, we know that she is happy to be with those who have passed. We love you!

Wilma’s life will be celebrated at Erindale Alliance Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Jim Pattison’s Children’s Hospital.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Mrs. Wilma Sookocheff's care and arrangements.
