Laurie was born in Milden, Sask. He moved to Saskatoon when he was 3. He took his schooling in Mayfair, Caswell, and then Bedford.
Laurie always said, “I’ve had 2 jobs in my life, 6 weeks at the Bank of Nova Scotia and 37 Years with Canada Post as a Customer Service Rep.” He loved his job at the Post Office, and that is where he met Betty Schindel, who became his wife.
We had 3 Children, Caralee, Russsell, and Janice. Laurie was a great Dad, he was a ball coach for Caralee’s ball team, and then coached Russell’s ball team, also Janice's ball Team. When Russ was involved in Beaver, Cubs, and Scouts, Laurie was also involved as a leader for one of the groups. He always made sure he gave each one of the kids their special time with him, taking them to see the Harlem Globetrotter or Wrestling matches or The Exhibition or some concert.
Laurie loved our church and for a lot of years was a council member, being the President, and singing in the choir.
Laurie was always active with playing ball and curling. Later in life he took up slow pitch and at one point, he said he played for 3 teams, The Christians, The Beer Drinkers, and the Old Timers. Laurie also had a great time going for coffee with some old buddies from the good old days.
Laurie was so happy to be a grandpa, I think he cuddled each one and sang to them.
Laurie retired in 1994 and said that he now had the best job, looking after grandchildren.
After Betty retired, he always said, “Now my holidays are over. It was strongly suggested to him that they become Tour Hosts. Eventually, he came around to the idea, and working for McConaghy Tours. We traveled the world for 10 years and 30 trips. We made such wonderful friends through this venture.
We moved to Golden Manor in 2018 and have made wonderful friends. We have enjoyed our move here very much.
Laurie is predeceased by his parents, Russell and Mary Cone, and by 2 brothers Bob and Bert.
He is survived by his wife Betty, children Caralee, Russell (Tracey), and Janice. His grandchildren, Bailie (Tyler), and Deyel, Kenzie (Luke), Vincent (Juno). Molly and Kennedy. His Great Granddaughter Anna. His brother Lenard and many nieces and nephews.
