Viola A Folkes

December 29, 1929 — February 10, 2023

December 29th, 1929 ~ February 10th, 2023

With mixed emotions of sadness and gratitude, we announce the death of Viola Folkes at age 93, at her home at Diamond House Personal Care Home in Warman on February 10, 2023.

Viola Alberta Shook was born in Edmonton on December 29, 1929, to Bert and Iola Shook. She lived and was educated in numerous cities across Canada, as her father worked for the CN Railroad. Viola married Harry Folkes in 1950 in Vancouver. They moved to Saskatoon and had two daughters, Adele, and Donna.

Viola worked for many years at The Bay, in the credit department, where she made many, lifelong friends. Mom was an amazing baker, enjoyed puttering in her yard, going for long walks, reading, playing cards, knitting, and doing crossword puzzles. One of her greatest joys in life, was being a devoted and caring Gramma to her beloved six grandsons. Mom was delighted to meet her two great grandsons and four great granddaughters.

In 1997, Mom’s former high school sweetheart, George Hainsworth, came back into her life. They married in 2001. They loved travelling to Hawaii, Mexico, across Canada and to her cabin at Emma Lake. Mom and George remained in the home that she had lived in since 1956 until 2018, when advancing age and Alzheimer’s Dementia necessitated a move to assisted living.

Viola was predeceased by her sister Marilyn (1951), brother Donald (1972), husband Harry (1974), Father Bert (2000), Mother Iola (2002), daughter Adele (2018) and husband George (2021).
Viola is survived by her daughter Donna (Bob) Lee and their four sons: Aaron, children Damien, Roman, Hayden and their mother, Jess; Michael (Jess), children Lincoln, Lexi; Chris (Jane) and Nick (Brooklyn), Son in law Neil Crocker (Adele-predeceased) and their two sons; Adam (Joanna) of Germany, Dane (Jenny) and daughter Alison of Toronto.

The family would like to thank all of the professionals and caregivers who assisted Mom in her last few years. The staff at Diamond House Personal Care Home are to be commended for their outstanding and compassionate care that they so tenderly provided to Mom over the past 2 years.

At Mom’s request, there will be no funeral service.

Arrangements entrusted to Cherished Memories Funeral Services, Martensville.
