Our family is sad to announce that Vince Vandale, age 66, passed away on January 20, 2026, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Vince was born in Big River, Saskatchewan, on December 15, 1959.
He was raised within the foster system, which impacted his life and strengthened his dedication to the family he created along the way. Vince served in the Canadian Navy in his late teens and twenties. Later, seeking peace, he moved back to the Saskatchewan and reunited with his siblings. He studied Social Work and obtained his Bachelor of Indian Social Work Degree from Saskatchewan Indian Federated College in 1994. While at this school, he met Carol Vandale, his wife and lifelong friend. He become a father to an amazing son and two lovely daughters. He was passionate about his work and took great pride in helping Indigenous youth and men through hard times with counselling, group work and therapy. He took even more pride in his three children, raising them with love, generosity, and loyalty. Vince suffered from countless ailments over the years, but was always able to fight back and find a way to laugh it off. Vince loved his family more than anything and was able to spend much time with them in his final years. You will be missed. Rest in Peace.
Vince Vandale is survived by his ex-spouse, Carol Vandale; his children, Alex Joshua Vandale, Gaia Marie Vandale, and Nitanis Freya Vandale; his sisters, Dorothy Le Bihan (Philippe Le Bihan) and Karen Young. He was predeceased by his parents, Alex Vandale Sr. and Gladys Vandale (nee Wardman), and his sisters: Sara, Cecile, Jean, Sharon, Kathy and Lorna. Brothers: Paul, Lloyd, Raymond, Johnny.
Vince loved hockey (Go Leafs!), rock music (Led Zeppelin, The Eagles), movies (Lord of the Rings, Star Trek), and reading (fantasy and sci-fi novels). He loved listening to going to concerts and coffee with his pal, Ted Teer (his nephew). He gave nicknames to everyone and everything — whether appropriate or not, and whether the person liked it or not, they always stuck. He was incredibly generous with his love and his time; he always tipped servers the most that he could. he loved birds, fishing and being in nature ,finding peace and meaning in the nehiyaw spiritual ways.
For those who would like to pay their respects, our family will be holding a public wake on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Sutherland Hall, 1112 Central Avenue, Saskatoon from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Luncheon and beverages will be served. Potluck snacks, desserts and salads will be appreciated.
As per Vince's wishes, this will be a sober event.
