A devoted husband, proud father and loving Dido, and a loyal brother, uncle, godfather, and friend who showed strength, kindness, and generosity and touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He passed away on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon due to cardiac arrest
Terry was the youngest of 3 sons to Fred and Mary Bayda. He was born on July 23rd 1955, at St Pauls Hospital Saskatoon and took his schooling in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan and completed grade 12. He loved and participated in various sports with baseball being his favorite and was a pitcher on various farm teams and became known as “chucker” as the main pitcher.
He farmed with his parents in the Smuts district and during the winters worked in Edmonton with his brother Bob and his family helping with Bayda and Associates Surveying Company along with Brinks Canada and helped with the raising of his nieces and nephews. In spring 1982 he met his wife Sonia at Petlura Ukrainian Orthodox Church and at that time transferred from Brinks Edmonton to Saskatoon and their relationship blossomed and were wed on July 23rd 1983 at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Saskatoon with a reception in Alvena.
Terry is survived by his loving wife Sonia of 42 years, his two sons: Andrew (Melissa) and Steven (Amanda) along with his precious grandchildren Julia, George, Henry and Brooklyn. His brother Mervin (Inger) of Surrey, sister-in-law Joyce of Edmonton, brother-in-law Dennis (Diana) of Edmonton. Numerous nieces and nephews; Cory, Ryan (Glenda), Ritchie (Anick), Daren (Stephanie), Ronald (Nadia), Elana (Stephen), Oksana (Mark), David (Scott), Kristina (Michael), Katelyn (David) and Laryssa (Tim) along with numerous great nieces and nephews. His godchildren Anne Luchak, Cory Bayda, Laurie Kurmey-Hebert, Elana Terry and Carlyn Zanidean. Terry was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary (Ksiondzyna), his brother Bob, his in-laws John and Mary Kuchta and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and friends.
Above all his love for his wife, children and grandchildren were unwavering. He was very proud of their accomplishments and supported them in all their activities; Ukrainian Dance, hockey, soccer, softball, and karate. He had a special bond with our beloved Yorkie fur baby Zoey who followed us with excitement and vigour for numerous car trips to the grocery store and medical appointments. His gentle spirit and constant presence and deep love for those around him will dearly be missed.
Terry was an avid sports enthusiast; he loved his Toronto Blue Jays and Saskatchewan Roughriders although they raised his blood pressure on a few too many occasions, but he continued to cheer them on. Hockey was a must to watch and after 42 years he had Sonia following the hockey teams, players and she learned to enjoy the sport. We are so grateful for his aqua walkers at the Shaw Centre; Emma, Amy, Dale, Wayne, Kathy, Bob and Bev who always kept an eye on him with his cardiac exercise program
Terry retired from the University of Saskatchewan at the age of 60 and loved retirement! He had a passion for cooking and gardening and enjoyed trying new recipes and comparing these new found recipes with his brother Mervin. He was amazing in the kitchen and loved making soups for all to enjoy. He was the resident expert on the cabbage roll filling for his granddaughter Julia and wife Sonia to create numerous trays of cabbage rolls for all to enjoy. He was a pickling extraordinaire and recently got into sausage making with his sons. We were blessed to take winter holidays with family and friends to various locations in Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Jamaica although his utter favorite was the Mayan Riviera
Terry was known for his infectious laugh and his love of entertaining family and friends and played a mean game of kaiser. His willingness to lend a hand and his big heart made him someone everyone could count on. He cared for his aging parents and mother-in-law with Sonia. The family meant everything to him. He volunteered countless hours at the Karpaty Pavilion and worked numerous bingos in support of his children’s sports and dance. He loved going to the lake with family and friends and enjoyed a competitive game of golf with his high school chums.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support and kindness during his cardiac illness. Special thanks to his Cardiologist, Dr Cenkowski and Dr Pekrul and the many medical specialists at RUH and his medical team for all the devoted care and support they have provided over the past years. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the Royal University Hospital Foundation – Cardiac Unit.
