Tanner Tokarchuk was born on May 1, 1991, in Saskatoon to Randy and Cindy Tokarchuk. Tanner grew up in Warman alongside his two older sisters, Ashley and Britney, in a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering family support. From an early age, he was happiest when he was active, and throughout his childhood and teenage years he developed a passion for sports, especially hockey and lacrosse. Whether on the ice or the field, Tanner brought determination, enthusiasm, and the easygoing spirit that would become one of his greatest qualities.

Some of Tanner’s fondest childhood memories were made at his grandparents farm. He loved being outdoors, quadding with his cousins, and gathering around the table to enjoy Grandma Vicki’s unforgettable home-cooked meals. Tanner spent many hours playing card games with his grandpa Marion and had a love for the game of crib. Summer had a special place in Tanner’s heart; many were spent at Fishing Lake where days were filled with fishing, tubing, and evenings were spent gathered around the campfire and laughter echoed through precious moments shared with family.

In the past few years many weekends were spent at the family farm where memories were made with extended family members. Tanner would spend countless hours fishing, golfing and pokemon hunting with his younger cousin, Taylor.

Tanner graduated from Warman High School in 2009 before joining his dad in the workforce as a drywaller. He took pride in working alongside his dad and always dreamed of one day opening a business with his sisters-a dream that reflected both his ambition and his desire to build something meaningful with the people he loved most. Tanner was a life long learner, curious mind and one that enjoyed his time at the University of Saskatchewan. Tanner was looking forward to completing his degree.

In 1998, Tanner was incredibly proud to become an uncle to Madison. For the first few years of their lives, Tanner and Madison were fortunate enough to grow up together, so close in age that they were more like brother and sister than uncle and niece. They spent countless hours together, sharing adventures, laughter, and the everyday moments that created a bond that they would carry with them for the rest of their lives. When Tanner’s first nephew, Slade came along, he was absolutely over the moon. Becoming an uncle brought out such a special side of Tanner. He loved watching his nieces and nephews grow, cheering them on, teasing them, teaching them, and being there for the little moments that matter. And then came Daxton, who quickly became Tanner’s fellow chess rival. Their games brought out Tanner’s competitive side, and he loved having someone who could challenge him across the chest board.

His bond with his nephew Drayton was something truly extraordinary. They weren’t just uncle and nephew-they were best friends. Drayton would bring his gaming console over and set it up beside Uncle Tanner’s so they could spend hours gaming together. This summer Drayton spent a straight week with his uncle Tanner gaming into the early hours of the morning and those moments meant so much to both Drayton and Tanner. Tanner would often tell Drayton that he was his best friend and Drayton felt the same way. Those late nights were filled with conversations, laughter, and the kind of friendship that will be cherished forever.

In 2017, Tanner welcomed another niece, Mataya, into his heart. From the moment she was born, she had him wrapped around his finger. Tanner happily sat on the floor for endless tea parties, spent hours making perler bead creations with her, and never missed the chance to watch her proudly show off her newest cheer and tumbling routines. Often, Mataya could convince uncle Tanner to also attempt the tumbling skills. She especially loved when Uncle Tanner would toss her high into the air, always making her laugh. Drayton and Mataya made sure to stop by several times a week to spend time with their favorite uncle, creating memories that will live on forever. They would never leave the house without a hug from uncle Tanner.

Tanner treasured being an uncle. He took genuine pride in each of them and loved seeing their personalities develop into their own. 

Tanner treasured the simple moments with his parents just as much as the big ones. Whether he was helping in the garden, sitting in the living room talking for hours, or watching sports with his dad, those moments meant the world to him. A devoted Colorado Avalanche fan since the age of 5 when Joe Sakic was traded to Colorado, Tanner’s loyalty to his team never faded, and cheering them on became another way he connected the people he loved. Tanner’s fondest memory was when his dad took him to Denver to watch Colorado play the Vancouver Canucks.

More than anything, Tanner’s love for his family was unmistakable. He had a gift for making people laugh and could spend hours joking around, especially with Ashley and Britney. Those moments of laughter, teasing, and unconditional love became some of the greatest gifts he left behind. Although Tanner only had sisters, he found the brother he had always needed in his brother-in-law, Justin. He looked up to Justin deeply, and the two could spend hours upon hours together, talking, laughing, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Tanner recently reconnected with his high school sweetheart Dayna who he considered to be a close and dear friend. We are thankful for the time they had together and the joy it brought to him.

Tanner’s kindness, humor, loyalty, and enormous heart will be deeply missed by his parents, Randy and Cindy; his sisters, Ashley and Britney; beloved nieces and nephews, Madison, Slade, Daxton, Drayton and Mataya; brother in law, Justin; sisters of the heart, Trista and Cara; father of his nephews, Joey; his extended family; special friend Dayna; and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.

Though his time with us was far too short, Tanner’s legacy lives on in campfires, rides through the family farmyard, late-night gaming sessions, hockey games, Roughrider football games, shared laughter, and every family gathering where his absence will be deeply felt but his presence will always be remembered.
