Sonia Dorothy Stubbs was born near Theodore, Saskatchewan, on April 29, 1939, and passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 86 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Sonia married Bill on April 14, 1962. They had many adventures together including a move to Châteauguay, Québec, and later, in retirement spending part of the winter in Yuma, Arizona.
Sonia was an industrious person, and held varied careers including switchboard operator, nurse, entrepreneur and salesperson. Sonia loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
Sonia loved to travel, and most recently visited the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain and Portugal with her children. She was known for her hospitable and generous spirit. Both Sonia and Bill hosted guests from all over the world, enjoyed delicious meals with a lot of conversation, and a good card game. She sewed and gifted many beautiful quilts, which are a treasured possession of many. For decades, she was a diligent student of the Bible, a member of the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and shared in the volunteer ministry with her family and friends.
Sonia is survived by her children Dinah (Regan) Buhl and Christopher (Dawn) Stubbs. Sonia is also survived by her grandchildren Hillary (Christian) Nicolás-Flores, Aidan Stubbs (Benji Phan) and Nina (Kyle) Glass; as well as, great-granddaughter Stella Nicolás-Flores, brother Wilf (Shirley) Kozak, Brad (Hilda) Kozak, sisters-in-law Donna Kozak, Betty Peterson, and Edie Stubbs, brother-in-law Herb Jennings as well as many nieces and nephews. Sonia was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bill Stubbs, parents Mary and John Kozak, brother David Kozak, parents-in-law Wilfred and Louise Stubbs, brothers-in-law Alvin Friesen, Frank Peterson, Rod Stubbs, sisters-in-law Aileen Jennings and Lenora Friesen.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Coronary Care Unit at the Royal University Hospital, for their kind and compassionate attention. The family is also grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family and friends.
The family is preparing a Memorial Service for Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. (CST/SK time) at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1725 McKercher Drive, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. For individuals who wish to attend virtually, a Zoom video conference will be available, please contact a family member for the meeting credentials.
