Shirley Gladys Derksen

May 14, 1936 — January 28, 2022

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce on Friday, January 28, 2022, Shirley Gladys Derksen passed away at the age of 85 years and went to be with her Lord.

Shirley was born on May 14, 1936, on a farm near Aberdeen, SK. She married Harry Derksen on June 1, 1962.  She received her nurses training in Moose Jaw, where she made life-long friends. She then worked at Saskatoon City Hospital until she started a family. Later she took her nursing refresher course and worked at St. Paul’s Hospital.

Mom loved the Lord and her family. She would do anything for us, and her grandkids and great grandkids were her pride and joy. She made many meals and desserts, catering to what we all liked. She enjoyed many crafts including embroidery, knitting and sewing. Family holidays were always a highlight for her. For years she sang in a ladies’ trio and served in her church.

She was predeceased by her husband Harry, parents, Henry and Annie (Klassen) Sawatzky, and her brother, Alvin. She is survived by her daughter, Danette and her son, Leigh (Lynn), grandchildren Brianne (Noah Wiebe) and Jamison, great grandsons Simeon and Jairus Wiebe, her brother Clarence (Dorothy) Sawatzky, sister-in-law Mary Sawatzky and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church (107 McWillie Ave) Saskatoon. For livestream go to and find Shirley Derksen memorial.

Arrangements entrusted to Martens Warman Funeral Home (306-934-4888).

The family would like to say a special thank you to all of the staff at Bethany Place and Hospice at Glengarda for the kind and loving care they gave to Mom.
