Shawn Broderick Graham, 66, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Shawn is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl; children Dakota, Dayton, and Dalin (Cassie); and his cherished granddaughter, Alaya. He will be dearly missed by his Mother Joan Fonger; siblings Shelley (Denis) Boyenko, Jacquie (Jack) Lutze, Judy Graham, and Janet (Mike) Wancho; brother-in-law Ron (Susan) Ford; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Graham, and his mother- and father-in-law, Ronald and Louise Ford.
Born on July 30, 1959, Shawn lived his entire life in the community he loved — Aberdeen, Saskatchewan. He attended Aberdeen School, where he made many lifelong friends whose bonds endured through the years.
Shawn began farming as a young boy alongside his dad on the land he cherished. He later took over the family farm, proudly continuing its rich heritage as a family century farm established in 1905. In addition to farming, he worked for many years at Maxie’s Excavating, where he found not just a job but another family.
Deeply committed to his community, Shawn served on many committees, including the Lion’s Club, the Rink Committee, Quill Plains Winter Games, and the building committee for the Aberdeen Recreation Complex (ARC). His dedication was recognized in 2017 when he was honored with the Citizen of the Year award — a testament to his generosity and leadership.
His love of sports was lifelong — he played hockey for many years, later coaching the Aberdeen Knights. He was also an avid curler and golfer.
Above all, Shawn’s greatest joy was his family. He was endlessly proud of his children and found nothing more fulfilling than watching them pursue and achieve their goals.
Shawn will be remembered for his big heart, his life-of-the-party spirit, and his role as a great character and cornerstone of the community. His legacy of hard work, generosity, and love will live on in his family, friends, and the town he served so passionately.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the friends, neighbors, and medical teams who supported Shawn throughout his journey.
A celebration of Shawn’s life will be held at a later date.
