With sorrow we announce the passing of Lynne Taylor on August 9, 2026, surrounded by her family, following a short stay in palliative care.

Lynne was predeceased by her daughter Jacinthe Marie Taylor, her parents Tom and Ella Townley-Smith, and Don’s parents Alex and Jean Taylor.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Donald, daughter Deanna Joffe (Ari, grandchildren Rachel, Jacob, Isaac), son Kevin Taylor (LeeAnn, grandchildren Rebecca, Ally), son Joel Taylor (grandchildren Jessica (greatgrandchildren Calliope, Kimiwan, Kyana, Storm), Joshua (greatgrandchild (River), brother Fred (Carolyn), brother Lawrence (Sandy), sister Norma, and many more cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Lynne (Namma) was born in Hardisty, AB in 1944 and spent most of her childhood on a small farm near Lashburn, SK. The family moved to Regina the year Lynne entered high school. Upon graduation, she went to college in Regina and then at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) where she met and then married her true love, Don. They were a dynamic duo- Namma, a meticulous planner, and Poppa, the master of execution. Together they accomplished many things and built a life to be proud of. Their properties at Turtle Lake were a place where families and friends have been meeting for all these years, and it will be their legacy for years to come.

Lynne and Don taught in Quebec, Manitoba, and then in Unity, SK for 24 years. Grade 5 and 6 Language Arts was Lynne’s specialty, but she had various other assignments. Lynne was loved by her students, and she loved them. She retired in 1998 and moved with Don to the Dome cabin they had built at Turtle Lake and lived there for 20 years. They built a fully accessible home at Turtle Lake in 2004 to make life easier for Lynne. They spent five years wintering on Vancouver Island but the lack of sun in the winter sent them to Mesa, AZ for the next eight winters. In 2018 they moved to Saskatoon to be closer to Lynne’s medical specialists.

Lynne loved to sew and made the most amazing quilts for her family and friends. Those quilts have left everyone with something to wrap themselves in to feel her love. At Christmas there was always a handmade personalized gift from Namma crafted with love - pajamas, blankets, socks, etc. She could often be found sitting on the pontoon boat or the deck enjoying views of the lake and the different birds, reading a good book, completing a puzzle with impressive speed, or playing a competitive game of cards.

Lynne was supportive and encouraging to every person. She connected with everyone as an individual and made them feel special and loved. She was very generous in many ways – she offered advice, teaching, and even made quilts, hats, and scarves for children and adults in need. Lynne had a quick wit, a great sense of humour, and a special gift with words. These characteristics shine through her writing of journals, plays, and other stories. One of her most known pieces of writing was a book about her early life on the farm “Then, and Then Some”. It was a gift to all of her family and when you read it, you feel as if you are having a conversation with her. She was a voracious reader and belonged to several book clubs where we suspect her teacher role kicked in. She encouraged her grandkids to read and joined them online on Goodreads. Her grandkids were her pride and joy, as were her great-grandkids.

As per Lynne’s wish, there will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends next summer at Mervin/Turtle Lake. In lieu of flowers, Lynne’s charities of choice are The MS Society of Canada, and dear to her heart, helping our hungry at the Saskatoon Food Bank.
