Robert Chives Horne

In the warmth and comfort of his family, Robert Chives Horne, 100 years of age, of Spruce Manor Special Care Home, Dalmeny, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in Palliative Care at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Bob, as he was known to his many friends, was born on December 17, 1924, to John and Grace Horne, in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. He grew up on the family farm north of Beatty, Saskatchewan.

Bob met the love of his life, Florence Martha Dahl, at a community dance and they were married on July 1, 1948. They had seven children – Alma, Roberta, LaVern, Lyla, Clifford, Ken, and Jerry.

Bob and Florence had a cattle and grain farm in the Creek Hill District, and later, a dairy farm near Okla, Saskatchewan. Like most other Saskatchewan farms at the time, it was a family affair with every member of the household pitching in.

After their children embarked on their own lives, Bob and Florence retired to Melfort, Saskatchewan.

When the demands of the farm allowed, Bob was a sports fan, enjoying golf, curling, baseball and hockey. He played hockey as a young man, noted for his speed on the ice. Later in his life, he was an enthusiastic curler and golfer.

In September of 2020, Bob moved to Dalmeny, Saskatchewan, where he lived at Spruce Manor Special Care Home. He formed very special friendships there, they provided him with care, love and happiness.

Bob is survived by his children, Alma (Ron) Arnst, Roberta, LaVern (Diane Robinson), Lyla (Tom Williams), Clifford (Cindy), Jerry (Jessica); 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Don and his sister Nell (Bortis).

He was preceded in death by his wife Florence, his son Ken, his parents John and Grace, and his sisters Sheila Larson and Grace Backman.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A private family interment will follow at Preeceville Community Cemetery.
