Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we announce the passing of Peter Regier on June 13, 2026.

Peter was born on the family farm near Osler on July 3, 1938. The 13th of 14 children, he went to school in Warman until grade 10 when he joined the workforce since grades 11 and 12 weren’t offered at that time. He married Marie Kessler on September 2, 1967 and they had 3 children of their own. After working in construction, he built their dream home in Warman that they moved into in 1974. By that time, he was working at the Star Phoenix as a Compositor, which he did for 35 years before retiring in 1994. They moved to Saskatoon after all the kids graduated high school where they lived in a few different homes before he passed away peacefully at the age of 87 at the Hospice at Glengarda surrounded by his daughters, Serena and Tammy.

Peter was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose kindness, humour, and steady presence touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a man of few words but was known for his dry ‘dad (grampa) jokes’. He was often visiting with family around the kitchen table while enjoying a home-cooked meal or dessert, and playing cards or other games. He loved playing sports or cheering on his kids and grandkids at their soccer, hockey, ball, football, and basketball games. He also loved road trips and he made many trips to northern Saskatchewan to fish; to BC, Alberta or Ontario to see family; and to Vegas, California or Arizona for sun, fun and a change of scenery.

A religious man, he was dedicated to his Christian faith and to the Saskatchewan Roughriders — the team he followed for more than 75 years, holding season tickets on-and-off throughout his life. The last 20 years will be fondly remembered by his son, Brent, who will have a tough time watching games without him in the future after the two spent numerous weekends travelling to Regina and back. Second to the Riders, they shared a passion for the Boston Bruins which became a great way to keep busy during the Riders off-seasons.

He will be lovingly remembered by Marie, his wife of 58 years; his children, Tammy (Mike) Balazsi, Serena (Tony) Landry, and Brent (Raelene) Regier; grandchildren, Gage (Shae) Balazsi, Levi (Taylor) Landry, Cole Balazsi, Ethan (Brianna) Landry, and Jonah Landry; and great-grandchildren, Sophia and Mavis Balazsi. He is also survived by close relatives: brother Bill Regier, sister Justina Nazarenko, sisters-in-law Lena (Ernie) Hoeppner, Tena (John) Sekella, Peryl Kessler and many nieces and nephews.

Peter is predeceased by his parents Isbrant and Katharina (née Friesen) and 11 siblings: Tena (Jake) Friesen, Dave (Betty) Regier, Henry (Ann) Regier, Joe (Sophie) Regier, Elizabeth (Henry) Rempel, Ann (Abe) Friesen, Susan (Fran) Crandell, Ike (Betty) Regier, Mary (Dave) Hein, Helen (Grant) Plewes, Nettie (Roy) Wahl, brother-in-law Serge Nazarenko and sister-in-law Ruby Regier.

Peter will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of sharing in his life.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the nurses with palliative home care for the time and support they gave Dad and Mom during this past year. We would also like to thank all the staff at the Hospice at Glengarda for their compassion and wonderful care given to Dad and us, as a family, at the end of his life.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 19th at 2:00 PM at Cherished Memories Funeral Home in Martensville, SK. Anyone who knew Peter is welcome to attend to celebrate his life.
