Peter (Pete) Dzendzel

February 15, 1933 — November 1, 2023

Peter (Pete) Dzendzel, the third of four children and the only son, was born on February 15th, 1933, in Vonda, Saskatchewan, to John and Pearl (née Kowal) Dzendzel. He passed away peacefully on November 1st, 2023, after a brief hospitalization.

Dad went to school in Vonda and grew up farming with his dad. He married our mom, Audrey, on September 24th, 1955. They settled early in their marriage in Saskatoon but changed locations several times over their 68 years together. They raised us four daughters and delighted in their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A true cowboy at heart, Dad’s passions included raising cattle, breaking horses, attending rodeos, working as a chuckwagon outrider, riding in parades, and sharing the joy of horseback riding with us daughters and his granddaughter, Marcy. He also enjoyed supporting his grandchildren at their hockey games, dance performances, and various other social events. His dream of becoming an RCMP officer and admiration for the RCMP Musical Ride remained close to his heart. When the family moved to the ranch near Grandora, Dad took on the role of a school bus driver so as he said, “my little girls won’t have to stand in the cold waiting for the bus.” A hard worker with a strong work ethic and a tendency for perfectionism, Dad also held a deep appreciation for his Ukrainian heritage, and loved country music, dancing, travelling with our mom, and telling jokes.

Left to mourn his passing is his constant companion and devoted wife, Audrey (née Makowecky) Dzendzel, sister, Nancy Archibald, daughters Brenda MacDonald (Reuben Rosom), Karen (Peter) Chouinard, Diana (Glenn) Schneider, Cindy Funk (Larry Quaiscer), 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

May your trails be smooth, your saddle be comfy, and your spirit forever roam the open range. Rest easy, Dad.
