Surrounded by love, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Olga Mellen, passed away on December 13, 2025.
Olga was born in Theodore, Saskatchewan, on April 16, 1928, to John and Emma Minken. She attended Theodore School and, upon graduation, furthered her education at the Technical Institute in Saskatoon. Her first job was as a nurse’s aide at the Theodore Union Hospital.
On September 28,1948 Olga married Frederick (Freddie) Mellen and they moved to Moose Jaw returning to Theodore in 1954 where they operated the local grocery store for 11 years. In 1965 Fred was appointed Postmaster and in September Olga became his assistant. They both retired from the post office on September 19,1986.
Olga was a lifelong and devoted member of Theodore United Church, officially joining in 1965. She held many positions on the church board, was an active member of the UCW, and sang in the church choir.
Olga was deeply involved in her community and volunteered in countless ways. In 2005 she was awarded the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in recognition of her dedication and service.
Following Fred’s passing in 1997, Olga remained independent in her home. She took immense pride in her beautifully kept yard, receiving awards for its care, with her begonias and vegetable garden admired by many.
Olga loved to dance and later in life took up pattern dancing with her friends. She travelled to many dances and formed lasting friendships along the way.
She also enjoyed travelling and visited destinations including Las Vegas, Branson, Oahu and Maui, the Yukon, and Alaska. In March 2019, Olga moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. In 2020, due to health issues, she moved into Oliver Lodge, where she resided until her passing.
Family and friends meant everything to Olga, and she shared her love freely with all who knew her. Her kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. Olga will be deeply missed, yet her memory will live on through the many lives she touched and the treasured moments she leaves behind, reflecting a life well lived and a heart that gave so much.
