Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Muriel Angélina Stangby on April 14, 2026, at 88 years of age. She passed peacefully with her husband and family in attendance.

Muriel was one of eight children born to Mary and Robert Venne at Batoche, SK. She often spoke fondly of growing up on the river front lots of Batoche. Her father was a gifted horseman and his love of riding was passed on to her. Muriel was often a jockey at Sport Days as a young woman. Muriel worked various jobs throughout her life; from bookkeeping, care aid, to retail in her later years and retiring at Wal-mart. She loved to sing country songs and was always up to dance. Mom was an avid Bingo player, and her love of card games and "show no mercy" were infamous with Kaiser, Crib, or 31.

Muriel married her teenage sweetheart, Walter. They met when she was 16 and he was 17 years old. Six years later they were married and went on to have seven children. Her family was her joy and she was always there to support and encourage them through life.

As time went on, Muriel lived with dementia. Despite this, she enjoyed life and spending time with her family. We were fortunate that for the most, she remembered who we were. Her husband took loving care of her and was never far from her side for long.

Muriel is lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years Walter Stangby; her children Brenda (Alex), Clayton, Todd (Allison), Luke, Shelly (Darrin), Stewart, and Sheri; her 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law Lorraine Venne, Marie Hachey, Karen (Fisher), and Diane Stangby.

Muriel is predeceased by her parents Mary and Robert Venne; her sisters Florine MacDonald, Lee Mylymuk, Louise Goodin, Doris Dudley, and Annabelle Wirchenko; and her brothers James Venne and Rene Venne.

Our family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Samaritan Place and Dr. Wong for all of their care and compassion.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 10:00AM at the Cathedral of the Holy Family 123 Nelson Rd, Saskatoon, SK. Family and friends are invited to join the service online using the following link:
