Mary was born February 21, 1929 in Durango, Mexico, to Heinrich and Maria Wolfe, third of fourteen children. Her family came back to Canada when she was a baby and settled north of Rhineland. She grew up north of Saskatoon on various farms, ending up near Martensville, before moving away from home to Saskatoon. She had various jobs growing up, starting at age 17, doing housework for farm families and then working as a waitress/kitchen worker after moving.
She married Ben Penner on August 15, 1948. Mary and Ben relocated to Toronto, Ontario two years after getting married, but relocated back to Saskatchewan in 1952. Both herself and Ben came to faith in Jesus Christ on April 17, 1957, through the “Back to the Bible” radio program. They were blessed with seven children: two sons and five daughters. After her children were grown, Mary pursued her Canadian citizenship to be able to work outside the home.
Mary had various jobs throughout life: including selling jewelry at Birks (in Saskatoon and Toronto), working in a laundry, purse factory and sewing in various clothing factories. Mary loved her main job, as wife, mother and homemaker. After retirement, Mary volunteered at the Warman Thrift store for 20 years.
Mary passed away unexpectantly at Saskatoon City Hospital on April 22, 2021, with family by her side.
She was predeceased by her husband Ben, her daughters Shirley and Sharon, her parents, and four of her siblings.
