Marvin lived 2 days short of 75 years and will have had the best Birthday ever, celebrating with Jesus. Joining in that heaven celebration will be; his Dad David Kessler, Mom Sarah Kessler, Brother Pete Kessler, Sister Sarah (Cornie) Hein and Brother David Kessler. We also envisioned his Niece Naomi Hoeppner and Nephew Barry Sekella giving him a welcome hug. We who are left are sad to say that one day after Marvin, his brother Ben Kessler went to join that Heavenly Celebration.
Marvin lived a long and good life for a Down’s Syndrome Man. He and I (Lena), were the youngest of eight. Growing up, he was my constant companion. We played outside and he did chores with me, mostly being tolerant of his bossy sister. He went everywhere with us, and particularly enjoyed going to church services sometimes singing along loudly. Marvin had a few Low German words in his vocabulary and jabbered in his own language. I remember seeing him in the back yard by a piece of junk he used as a Pulpit, preaching up a storm. Other times he would be bent over seemingly in fervent prayer. One morning we were all working at the Garden a block away, when we came home he was no where to be found. Turned out he had walked to the Ben Ens grocery store by himself in search of Breakfast. I guess all those trips with Dad on his Ford Tractor showed him the way. He continued to live with mom till she was 85 years old. Then he came to live with my family for 5 years, thank you Ernie, Colin and Arlyn for your help in caring for him. In 2000 he became a resident at Sunshine Housing in Hague. After seeing all his siblings move out and getting homes of their own, I sensed he felt he had gone to his home where he belonged. Sunshine Housing kept him very busy with various kinds of activities, not the least of which was the Monster Truck Shows at SaskPlace. We the family are very grateful for the stellar love and care all the staff at Sunshine House gave him, from the Administration to the Care Workers.
Marvin is survived by his sister; Tena (John) Sekella, Sister-in-Law (Tena Kessler Lawson), Sister In Law (Peryl Kessler), Sister-in-law (Margaret Campbell), Marie (Peter) Regier and Lena (Ernie) Hoeppner, and his 21 Nieces, Nephews and their families.
