Marjorie Leone Steen

January 12, 1930 — November 22, 2025

Marjorie Leone Steen passed away peacefully on Saturday November 22, 2025. Marjorie was the eighth of ten children was born on January 12, 1930 to Theresa (Holmlund) and Peter Stone of Strongfield, Sk. at their home on Sec6, TSP27, W3rd. In today’s terms that would be approximately 23 steps from the east end of the South Saskatchewan River Dam. (Their house, barn and other buildings were relocated when Gardiner Dam was built.) Marjorie attended school at Stafford SD#4540 and high school in Strongfield, and went on to attended Success Business College in Regina. Upon completion of business college Marjorie had a fulfilling administrative and management career at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Employees Association known today as Grain and General Services Union. She was instrumental in GSU’s fight for better health and safety laws in Saskatchewan which were successfully implemented.

Upon retirement Marjorie joined Thor Hills Ladies Golf Club in Regina. She loved the game and enjoyed 25 summers as a member. She was always ready to travel to tournaments or explore new golf courses. According to her last count she had golfed 40 courses within Saskatchewan and golfed in every province except Newfoundland. Her proudest golf achievement though was winning the low net score in the qualifying round of the 1954 Ladies Lobstick Tournament. A tournament she entered only because she happened to be vacationing in Waskesiu and wanted to play a round of golf.

Marjorie was adventurous and caught the travel bug. Her first early trip was from Winnipeg to Churchill,Mb to see the polar bears and she was awed by what an enormous animal they were. While there she hopped on a cargo plane headed to the North West Territories where she was thrilled to be greeted and entertained by the local Eskimo’s. Her next adventure by contrast was to Hawaii where she returned numerous times to visit all the islands. Her travels then went onto Sweden, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Bermuda, Mexico, United States, and across Canada, always coming home with numerous pictures and a story to share. In her non travel years she enjoyed looking at the map of the world displayed on her wall with encouraging words to travel while you can enjoy the adventure.

Marjorie was an avid fan and season ticket holder of the Saskatchewan Roughriders right from the days when seats were only available on the west side of Taylor Field. In 1989 she one of the fans amidst hundreds of other Saskatchewan Roughrider fans to hop on a Toronto bound train to see the Riders win the Grey Cup. “The Kick” as it was called occurred right below her seat. Everyone in Trinity Manor knew when Majorie was dressed in her Rider fan gear it was game day. At the age of 85 she gave up her season ticket and made the decision to move from Regina to Trinity Manor in Saskatoon but did take in one last game at the new Mosaic Stadium at 90 years old.

Marjorie is predeceased by her parents Peter and Theresa Stone, husbands, Marion (Max) Steffenson, Willis Steen, and Mitchell (Mickey) Stone, brothers Gerald, Gordon, Lloyd, and Jim, sisters Verna, Georgie, Edna, and Ruth. Brother-in-laws Frank Wood, Bill Rowbotham, Mike Meshke, Gerald O’Shea, and sister-in-law Nora Stone. Marjorie is survived by her family caregivers Geoff and Valerie Meshke, very special great nephew Sean Meshke and great niece Jaclyn Gaucher (Ryan & family)who were at Marjorie’s bedside throughout her short cancer journey. Also left to cherish her memory are her sister Ruth’s family Gerry & Donna Meshke, Janice Meshke (Ray Thoen), Jim Meshke and their families, sister-in laws Dorothy Stone & Margaret Stone, Willis Steen’s family Laurie, Carolyn, Heather, David, their spouses and children, and sister Maureen O’Shea as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

"When I die, I want my body,
This temple of my spirit,
To be cremated
And returned as ashes
To the earth
From which it came.

I want my friends and family
To remember
The joy and love we shared,
During my time with them.
I want them to know
They gave me what they could give,

Their last gift to me
Is one of sorrow and joy,
Rain and celebration.
I want them to tell
Of the fun and laughter we shared,
Of the times
When I was able to truly love
And share their pains and joys."
