Margaret Anne Hildebrand was born on October 25, 1944, to David and Annie (Pankratz) Hildebrand. She grew up on a farm with a hard-working and fun-loving family, together with her siblings, two brothers, Delmer and Bob, and two sisters, Marlene and Betty.

She attended Silberfeld country school grades 1 to 6, after which the family moved to a farm a mile south of Waldheim. While in high school, Margaret got to play on the very first High School volleyball team and graduated from Waldheim High School in 1963.

After a year of working as a “nanny” in Saskatoon, she registered to begin her Certified Nurses Assistant training at Kelsey Institute. After completing her practicum in 1965 in North Battleford at the Notre Dame Hospital, she began her nursing career at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. City life, a rewarding profession, and living together with her girl friend made for many exciting memories. Already by this time she was dating Peter Block, and marriage was definitely on her mind.

Peter and Margaret were married on July 1, 1966 at Mount Royal Mennonite Church in Saskatoon. They enjoyed a 3-week-long honeymoon to the USA and then settled onto their own acreage just south of the Town of Waldheim. Here they raised their four children - Scott, Trace, Rick and Heidi. Nursing was now no longer an option with 4 children and Peter working long hours at the Credit Union. These years were filled with the joy of being a home-maker, a gardener, and just enjoying mothering their children through the childhood and adolescent years.

It was on Oct. 22, 1971, already having two sons, that Margaret decided to fully become a disciple of Jesus. She realized that in part she was responsible for the spiritual life of her two sons at the time. On April 23, 1972, Margaret was baptized, together with Peter, in the Hepburn M.B. Church. At this time they joined the Waldheim M.B. Church.

In 1984, when Heidi, the youngest, was in grade 1, Margaret applied and was accepted to work as an Educational Assistant at Waldheim School. In total, she worked there for 29 enjoyable years, with the last few years as a substitute EA. Margaret was also always teaching Sunday school and Club as the children grew up. Later she felt very honoured to teach a Sunday school class of junior high girls for several years. She loved teaching even though nursing was her first love.

Upon moving into a condo in Saskatoon in 2014, it wasn't long before Margaret volunteered at the MCC Thrift Store, the Information desk at City Hospital, and at Open Door Society teaching English to new immigrants. Life was full and good - and then came the Covid19 pandemic. Volunteering had become more complicated, less enjoyable due to restrictions, and so she decided it was time for a change. So she took up knitting countless mittens for the homeless on the streets of Saskatoon. That was until a mini-stroke left her with reduced mobility in her fingers.

Margaret loved to travel, reading countless books, doing puzzles, playing on-line Scrabble, and learning Spanish on-line through Duolingo. Margaret deeply treasured her friendships and time spent with her growing family. Always proud of her “titles” Mom, GrandMa and GreatGrandMa. It was of utmost importance to spend time alone with her Lord And Saviour through journaling or going out in nature to savor this relationship and enjoy being in the Lord’s presence.

In November of 2024, while still enjoying hiking the river trails, a sudden backache led to two kidney stone surgeries and a spinal concussion fracture due to Osteoporosis. Life in a wheel-chair with severe nerve pain became very difficult. Peter overnight literally became an amazing care-giver with a crash course in the kitchen. Amidst the pain, the uncertainties, and the despairing feeling of her loss of mobility and opportunities to serve, Margaret continued to dream of dancing ever more closely with the Lord. She remained steadfast in her gift to encourage and bless others, even though inwardly her own spirit and resolve in life had diminished. After two years of chronic physical and mental pain, in brokenness and desperation, she intentionally overdosed on her medication. She passed away at home in the early morning of Monday, August 3, 2026.

Margaret is predeceased by her parents, David and Annie Hildebrand, brothers Willie and Delmar and sister Betty, and granddaughter Serena. She is survived by her husband Peter; children Scott (Wendy), Trace (Tracy), Rick (Jacquie) and Heidi (Matthew); Grandchildren- Kelsey, Levi (Sydney), Jesse, Parker (Rachel), Carter, Kaci (Joseph), Ezra, Hilary, Saffron, Grenadine; Great-grandchildren Harlowe, Wrenley, Elizabeth, Caleb and Finley. 

Margaret's Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Waldheim MB Church in Waldheim, SK. A private interment will take place per Margaret's wishes.
