Beloved Wife, Nurse, Leader, Mother and Friend
It is with deep sorrow and abiding love that we announce the passing of Lynne Eikel, who left this world peacefully on July 13, 2025, at the age of 62, in the loving arms of her husband, Brian, surrounded by family and friends.
Lynne was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by compassion, service, and integrity. She dedicated 43 years to the nursing profession, where she served as a caregiver, leader, advocate, and mentor. Her career spanned across hospitals, mental health, clinical research, and union leadership—always with a commitment to making healthcare better for both patients and professionals.
She served with distinction on the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA), the Ethics Committees, and the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) at the local, area, and board levels. Lynne especially cherished her time serving alongside her colleagues on the SUN Board of Directors. She believed deeply in collaboration, fairness, and uplifting others, and she brought people together with a clear vision and an open heart.
Over the years, Lynne held many leadership roles. She earlier managed 5th Medicine at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, and later co-managed the Handelman Building (Mental Health) at Royal University Hospital. She went on to run clinical trials with three respected Saskatoon physicians, growing a successful business until deciding to return to her roots in patient care. She found joy once again as a nurse at the Rosthern Hospital, where she reconnected with the heart of the profession she loved. She finished as an elected member of the Board of Directors at the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses, and also had a role in Community Mental Health.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lynne was a vibrant and loving soul. Occasionally, to those very close to her, she would share the most infectious laugh, smurph-like, joyful, and absolutely contagious. When Lynne laughed, everyone laughed. Her favourite colour was purple—bold, beautiful, and full of life, just like she was.
Lynne had a deep love for travel and adventure. She and Brian built a life rich in memories, sharing unforgettable experiences across places like Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico, and Ireland, and many cities of the United States and Canada. But more than the places, Lynne loved the people she met along the way. Her warmth, humour, and open heart drew people in wherever she went.
Lynne faced her final challenge with the same courage and grace that marked her life. After receiving a stem cell transplant in April, she endured a long and difficult battle with Graft Versus Host Disease. Through it all, she remained surrounded by love. Brian, her devoted husband and caregiver, stayed by her side until her final breath.
She is predeceased by her grandparents, Myles and Violet Hourie, Father Eric Hourie of Lily Plain, Saskatchewan, and her mother, June (Grimes) from England, and her brother, Guy Hourie of Saskatoon. She was also predeceased by her uncles Isadore and John Hourie, and Aunt Gwen Etchyson.
She is survived by her husband Brian Eikel, her family (Sons Keith and Paul Kuspira, Step-daughter Cassidy Eikel, dear relatives (Darwynne Hourie, Sonja Martin and many more), friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched deeply.
