With a whole lot of sadness, we announce the passing of Lorna Marie DeLaRonde, with loved ones by her side, on May 4, 2025. Lorna was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma in February. But as one would expect of this strongly fierce woman, fought her cancer battle with determination until the end. She is no longer in pain, and we pray she is resting in peace. Lorna was born August 11, 1951, in the North Battleford hospital and lived her entire life in Meadow Lake, SK.
Lorna is lovingly survived by: her husband, of 55 years, Glen DeLaRonde, Son; Leonard DeLaRonde and his family, Sherri, Trigger & Brady, Son; Lee DeLaRonde and his family, Lori, Jaysea, Cameron (Laura-Faye) great great-grandson Preslee, Paula & Therran. Lorna's father; Art Gorst, Brothers; Lyle (Debbie) Gorst, Gary (Janice) Gorst, Sisters; Jean Gorst, May (Chinney) Gorst, Sister-in-law; Sandra Gorst, many cherished nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Lorna was predeceased by her Mother; Effie Gorst, Brother; Chester Gorst, Mother & Father-in-law; Hilda & Alex DeLaRonde, Maternal Grandparents; Rose & Joe Landry, Paternal Grandparents; Jean & Leo Gorst.
Lorna grew up on the family farm in the Meadow River area, and attended school in Meadow Lake. Being the oldest, she helped raise her 5 siblings and worked hard on the family farm. She loved horses, barrel racing, participated in gymkhana, and 4-H. In 1967 she met Glen DeLaRonde. They were married July 30, 1969.
In August 1969, they had their first son, Leonard, and in January 1971, they had their second son, Lee.
Lorna & Glen lived in town. Lorna worked as a Cook at the Golden Spur. From 1968-1986 the family traveled the chuckwagon racing circuit every summer, making many memories and friends along the way. In 1981, they moved to their farm in the Cloverbar district. Lorna worked as a clerk at the Coop Hardware Store, then in 1982, they bought a school bus and she started her bus driving career, which lasted over 30 years. She retired from that in 2015. Along the way, she babysat for numerous families in Meadow Lake. She told many stories of driving the kids from Kindergarten all the way through to Graduation, then attending their Graduations, then weddings, and baby showers. Although she was a no-nonsense kind of person, she was a beloved member of these kids/families lives. After retirement, one could not keep track of Lorna & Glen. They would up and travel at the drop of a hat. In 2016, they moved into the Elders Lodge at Flying Dust First Nation. They were treated like kings & queens by the Flying Dust community. Participating in everything from Elder's Wellness days to celebrating Love at Valentine's Day to bus trips to Dakota Dunes and much, much more. We thank you all for taking such good care of Lorna & Glen.
Many thanks to the Nurses and Doctors at Meadow Lake Hospital for going above and beyond, always, for Lorna. You made her last days as comfortable as possible.
Lorna will be remembered for her incredible strength, kindness, and great love for her family and friends.
