Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karolyn Diane Suetta (Irvine) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on September 29, 2026, at the age of 83.

Karolyn was born on February 3, 1943, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to Ora Irvine and William Howard Irvine. She was predeceased by her mother, Ora, in 2010, and her father, William, in 1990.

Karolyn attended the Holy Family School of Nursing in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, graduating in 1964 with her nursing diploma and becoming a Registered Nurse. During her time at the school, she was especially proud to receive the “Best Bedside Nurse” award—an honour that reflected the compassion and care she would bring to her nursing career throughout her life.

Shortly after graduating, Karolyn married Frank Suetta, beginning a marriage and family that would span more than six decades. A year later, they welcomed their first child, Darren. In 1965, the family moved to Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, where Karolyn and Frank welcomed two more children, Mark and Lisa. Karolyn worked as a Registered Nurse in Lloydminster while raising her young family.

In 1976, the family returned to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where Karolyn continued her nursing career. In 1988, the family moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which remained her home for the rest of her life.

Karolyn had a great love of animals and a zest for life. She loved to travel, host dinners, and spend time surrounded by friends and family. She had a wonderful appreciation for fashion and, even after retiring from nursing, continued working in ladies' fashion simply because she enjoyed it.

Above all, Karolyn cherished the people in her life. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Frank Suetta of Saskatoon; her children, Darren (Joanne) Suetta of Cranbrook, BC, Mark (Sheila) Suetta of Leduc, Alberta, and Lisa (Warren) Smith of Nanaimo, British Columbia; her grandchildren Geneva (Mike Pesce), Marissa Suetta, Carson Suetta, Xander Smith, and Finnegan Smith; and her great-granddaughter Mila Pesce.

Karolyn leaves behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, laughter, love, and the many lives she touched through both her family and her nursing career. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A private family service will be held in Saskatoon.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of Mrs. Suetta.
