Obituary

James (Jim) Darwin Peters was the youngest child born to Clifford and Anna Peters on November 29, 1965, making the Peters family complete. He grew up on the acreage outside of Martensville, doing all the things a young boy could dream of with his cousins and lifetime buddies, making memories that we are all hearing this past week.

School was not his favorite place to be, but he did attend off and on all the way to Grade 9. One good thing was on the first day of Grade 1 he picked his best friend for life, Wayne, at Martensville Elementary. Formal education wasn’t on his list of importance as much as getting into the workforce at a young age after all he had great taste and loved his cars, and cars cost money so Jim started his career at Hundseth in 1987 and worked there for 37 years, rarely missing a day of work. He was an employers’ dream as he had a strong work ethic, he was determined and truly enjoyed a good hard day of work, loved a good challenge, he was smart and had a quiet leadership which gained him mad respect on the jobsites. He loved working every day with his brother, son and nephew, and the guys on the crews quickly became fishing buddies and friends. We know he will be greatly missed by his Hundseth family.

Ten months after baby Dylan was born, Jim married the love of his life, Dana Lockwood (Sept 25, 1993), and they quickly added a little brother, Taylor, making their little family perfect. The boys grew up outside learning how to do all the important things a dad teaches his sons, and he was so proud watching them working on things in the shop or around the yard. Jim and Dana are often stopped by folks who have met or worked with their boys and are told what great sons they raised, making them so proud and happy as parents.

In 2001, the youngest Peters’ family purchased the acreage from Jim’s parents, and Grandma and Grandpa moved into a home in the neighbouring yard, making everyone very happy to live so close together. These days were the greatest days as Auntie Sylvia and Uncle Dave lived close by and had boys that enjoyed twisting wrenches and all the crazy wild adventures, so growing up around there was a ton of redneck fun for everyone and the place all the kids wanted to be. The boys were very independent at a young age, but knew Grandma was close by if they needed a fresh cookie or a hand doing something till Mom and Dad came home from work. Raising Dylan and Taylor so close to Grandma and Grandpa made their growing up the greatest. As many of you here all know, the Peters family is different than most; the love you see, the respect for each other, the closeness of ALL the siblings and children is real. It’s something many desire, and their family values have inspired many of their friends and neighbours over the years. Family always remained the most important to Jim, and the best memories were made when everyone was together. He loved family gatherings, seeing all the nephews and nieces growing up and had a special way of making each of them feel so valued. Uncle Jim was everyone’s favorite uncle, and he had a soft spot for each and every one of you.

He enjoyed spending his days at the cabin at Tobin, potlucks, holidays, sausage making days at Gerald and Jeannie’s, hunting with his brothers, uncles, dad and friends at the hunting cabin, fishing in his sparkle boat with buddies or on the ice popping in to everyone’s shacks for some socialables, evenings and campfires filled with all the stories of days gone by shared with giggles, fellowship and a few wobbly pops, good bowls of zumma borscht, roll kuchen or homemade goodies, sitting around hanging out in the shop Friday nights with the guys, the tunes softly playing tinkering on whatever needed attention, helping someone out or building the latest muscle car or truck. And when we weren’t together, there were group chats, FaceTimes and phone calls that always brought laughter. Jim was a huge softy too; he gave us all the greatest huge hugs.

Jim's greatest achievement was when Kye was born, and he became a Grandpa. Kye made his blue eyes sparkle and his big heart as full as it could be. He loved Kye more than anything, and they made many trips out to Alberta to see him. He often shared stories about those trips with such joy and happy tears in his eyes, as having a grandson was the greatest. He was so excited to share with Kye all the things Dylan and Taylor liked to do as young boys and was looking forward to being a big part of his life and watching him grow up.

Jim was greeted in heaven by his parents, Clifford and Anna Peters, Uncle Andrew, Father-in-Laws Jack Lockwood and Albert McDonough and sadly his great nephew, Tyler James and grand niece, Ashlyn Jean Unruh, along with several other family members and friends. Also smiling her toothy smile, so excited to see him come through the pearly gates, shaking her butt back and forth, wagging her stubby tail, is his wonderful companion, Shade, and I’m sure she seen him coming and jumped in the boat ready for the fishing days they have ahead up there in God’s waters.

On his 60th birthday, he suddenly crossed over and left us all here today, shocked and shattered in disbelief. He will be lovingly remembered the most by his wife, Dana and their two boys, Dylan (grandson, Kye and his Mom, Lacey) and Taylor and (wife), Tanisha. His siblings, Robert (Debbie) Peters, Rod (Cheryl) Peters, Sylvia (David) Peters, Pat (Ed) Wall and all the nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and coworkers that he cared for as family that filled his life with love and light all these years. Jim’s little buddy, Rusty, also joins us in mourning, as Jim was his best friend and was Jim’s sidekick these past few years.

Jim's Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, in the Northridge Centennial Community Centre, 901 3rd Street North, Martensville, SK.
