Obituary

With love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Gwen Kruger on August 16, 2026, at the age of 101 years.

Gwen will be lovingly remembered by her family: Ken (Mary), Sharla; Cara (Brennan) Wiens, Mitchell, Carmen and Adam; Sheldon (Chantelle), Nelius and Molly; Donna (Bruno) Wiebe, Shawna (Trevor) Reid, Ethan, Jadyn and Joshua; Christopher (Natalie), Tyler and Ashley; Gary (Roberta), Shane; Kyle (Sarah), Ivy and Gage; brother-in-law Bill Keith (Donna), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all very dear to Gwen.

Gwen was predeceased by her devoted husband Archie in 2015, sisters Vi (George) Schultz and Marianne (Alf) Luscombe, in-laws Alvena (Rev. Jacob H) Epp, Freda (Joe) Klassen, Wes (Anna) Kruger, Harold (Susan) Kruger, and Doris Keith.

Gwen was born in Saskatoon and lived in various nearby communities during her early years, starting school in Mennon. In 1938, the family moved to Saskatoon. Following graduation from Bedford Road Collegiate, she worked at several jobs before settling in as a cashier at Safeway. She met her sweetheart, Archie, at a church youth group event and they were married in 1947. Gwen and Archie were true partners in their various endeavours.

Gwen had an enduring faith in her God and a profound love for her family and community.
Gwen and Archie worked tirelessly on their dairy and grain farm where they raised their three children. A gifted cook, Gwen was always prepared to welcome guests for a meal or coffee at a moment’s notice. She was a devoted baker who loved to create all kinds of treats. She tended her garden with joy, canning most of her produce in the earlier years, and after power arrived at the farm, filling her freezers so she had abundant provisions to cook delicious meals throughout the year. Gwen took pride in sewing beautiful clothing for herself and her family for special occasions, mending meticulously as the need arose, quilting treasured keepsakes for her family, and in later years volunteering with the quilting group at Bethany. Always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbours and friends, she generously offered her time and kindness, and even her first aid skills when needed.

After selling their dairy in 1973, Gwen and Archie enjoyed 30 winters in Mesa, Arizona, cultivating many new friendships through their involvement in church, music and shuffleboard. Summers involved fishing and camping with family and friends. Gwen and Archie had a passion for travel, with adventures across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Mexico.

Gwen’s greatest joy was her family. She cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, was proud of each one of them and always so appreciative of their visits. As a centenarian, she was still keeping in touch with family and friends by email.

Gwen and Archie moved to Elim Lodge in Saskatoon in 2000, then relocated to Bethany Place in 2010. In 2025, Gwen decided to move to Bethany Villa. Gwen's final 2 months were spent at Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany and Sunnyside for their exceptional care and kindness.

A private family celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026. Gwen's final resting place will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to http://bethany55plusliving.ca/, http://sunnysidecare.ca/http://mcc.org/
