Obituary

Gerald Leslie Tunnicliffe was born January 5, 1951, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to Ronald and Sylvia Tunnicliffe, and grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Gerry met his wife Cindy in Regina while she was there for nurse training in the fall of 1974. He began attending church with her and committed his life to God, being baptized in June of 1975. They married in August of 1975 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Their married life began with Cindy in nursing school and living in his aunt’s basement in Yorkton and then in a basement suite in Moose Jaw. From there they went to Saskatoon for Gerry to attend university. After a few job changes Gerry found work in graphic design and printing which suited his abilities and interests well. Eventually, his design abilities transitioned to sign work and although there were difficulties he enjoyed his years of designing and producing cedar sandblasted signs. Many signs in many places bear his handiwork, all the way from Waskesiu, Saskatchewan to the British Virgin Islands.

The most important things in Gerry’s life were his faith and his family. He was a little brother to his sister Janis. He was a loving and proud father to his daughters Megan and Jocelyn, and his son Michael. Later a father-in-law to Chris, Ryan, and Michelle, and Grandfather to Emily (Tyson), Niomi, Joshua, Hazel, Faith, and Isla. All of whom were the delight of his life. He was always happy to see family at their home in Martensville.

Gerry’s many friends were also very important to him. He kept in touch with many of his childhood and high school friends, visiting them back home in Regina whenever possible. He also highly valued his friends at church and the friends he made throughout his involvement with many different ministries over the years.

Gerry had a great love of sports. The Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Toronto Blue Jays were his teams. He did some baseball coaching for Michael and many hours were spent cheering at baseball, basketball and soccer games. This has continued with grandchildren and many hours of enthusiastically cheering at numerous basketball games as a very proud Grandpa.

Music also was a love of Gerry’s, and he was always happy to share some time listening with a friend. He had a head full of music and other trivia that often left his family asking how he remembered all that he did.

Gerry was always happy to be involved in church activities. He served as a youth leader, usher, adult Sunday school teacher, elder, and other roles. Gerry had a deep interest in pseudo-Christian cults; studying them in depth to biblically expose their errors and defend his faith. He was on the board of Christian Research Institute and a friend to the late Dr. Walter Martin. He would happily sit down to talk with anyone who came to his door be it the JW’s, Mormons, or others. He was often invited to share his knowledge on the topic. Other churches invited him to teach Sunday school, lead Bible studies, and even to guest speak at a banquet. Gerry also studied at length and became involved with Creation Ministries, working to bring speakers to Saskatoon and attended CMI events in other areas.

Gerry and Cindy’s summers together were filled with camping trips which they both loved. They enjoyed kayaking together and just enjoying being out in the beauty of Gods world. Many games were played in their little camper home. Waskesiu was a favourite place. Jasper was also a happy place for many trips, to ski in the winter and explore in the summer.

In the last 15 years cancer presented Gerry with health challenges and limited some activities. He struggled through a rare form of leukemia, followed by bladder cancer, but continued to enjoy life. A third cancer diagnosis this past fall presented new challenges. While things began to improve and God granted us December and January together, in God’s timing Gerry is no longer ill. While our hearts are breaking, he is happily home, at peace in heaven waiting for us.

Gerry was predeceased by his father, Ronald Tunnicliffe, his mother, Sylvia Tunnicliffe, his brother-in-law, Colin Zacharias, and father-in-law, Dr. Irwin Zacharias. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cindy, and his three children Megan (Chris), Jocelyn (Ryan), and Michael (Michelle), his six grandchildren Emily (Tyson), Niomi, Joshua, Hazel, Faith, and Isla, and his sister Janis Froh (Ray) and his nephews Jefferson, Thomas, Greg, and his niece Courtney, and his mother-in-law, Helen Zacharias, and brother-in-law, Jan (Cheryl) Zacharias.

There will be a celebration of life for Gerry on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 11:00a.m. at Calvary Church, 2810 Louise St, Saskatoon, SK with Pastor Tim Nicholson officiating. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Martens Warman Funeral Home.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Tunnicliffe's care and arrangements.
