In Loving Memory of Gary Chute
A Life Remembered
Gary Chute was born on May 11, 1943, in Nokomis, Saskatchewan. He grew up near Somme, Saskatchewan, where he developed a love of the land, hard work, and helping others. He cherished his roots and was always proud of the community that shaped him.
In his twenties, Gary worked for CN Railway, a job he loved which sparked a lifelong interest in trains and resulted in many museum trips and a collection of model trains. He later began a long career with Kramer Tractor, Tisdale, where he worked as a parts-man for 30 years. Gary spent most of his adult life in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, a community he was proud to call home.
A Supportive Father, Grandfather and Friend
Gary was a steady and devoted father who was always there for his children. He drove them to early morning sports practices and coached their teams when they were young. He never hesitated to help with home projects or answer questions about home and car repairs as they grew older. He was always ready to listen, offering guidance and a calm, reassuring presence, and was often the first call when support was needed. His reliability, generosity, and quiet strength were constants in his family’s life.
He was a proud grandpa of six grandchildren and enjoyed their visits, eager to hear about their lives, accomplishments, and goals.
He was a loyal friend, always willing to lend a hand, whether helping with a building project, driving someone to an appointment, or shovelling a neighbour’s walk. He deeply valued his friendships and was especially grateful for those who supported him in his later years.
Though he never admitted how much he loved animals, they were constant cherished companions throughout his life. Bucky, Wags, Bowie (who he rescued on a walk with Wags), and Mo were all quietly loved and held a special place in his heart. He also kindly pet-sit his children’s many pets when needed – sometimes for months at a time.
A Lifetime of Hobbies and Music
Gary loved music and, through it, made many meaningful friendships over the years. He played guitar, and his children fondly remember evenings filled with songs shared in the living room with family and friends. He especially enjoyed playing at seniors’ homes in Tisdale, where it brought him great joy to share his love for music.
After retiring, Gary found happiness spending time on his family farm. There, he tended the yard, planted a garden, hosted family reunions and even built a tiny house from a granary. He loved watching his crops grow and working with his hands in the outdoors.
An accomplished woodworker, Gary built his own garage and crafted many wooden creations, including rocking horses, sleighs, puzzles, and wooden spoons; pieces that reflected both his skill and patience.
A Lasting Legacy
Gary will be remembered for his kindness, his work ethic, his willingness to help others, and the steady presence he was to those who knew and loved him.
Gary passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Marie Chute; his sister, Laurel Dawson; and his partner, Irene Evans. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Nicole, Kevin (Amanda) and Ryan (Erin), and by his grandchildren, Angela, Hailey, Isabelle, Julianna, Wynn, and Sarah.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, 1:00 p.m. at Cumberland Villas.
Rest in peace, Dad.
We love you and will carry your memory with us always.
