Flora Ayres (nee Skilliter) of Saskatoon, SK, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the age of 85 years. Flora passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre after a courageous battle with mixed dementia.

Flora was born in Hudson Bay, SK, on October 15, 1940 to parents, Albert Skilliter and Caroline Hoar. She grew up in Armit, SK, with her brother Willard (now deceased) and sister Lynn.

Flora was married in 1968 to Keith Ayres (now deceased) in Saskatoon, SK. Flora and Keith had three sons, Brian (Lorna, Trissa, and Skylar), Dean (Twyla, Landyn, and Reed), and Garth (Trinity, Grace, and Eliza).

Flora attended high school in Hudson Bay and Sturgis and later went on to the Yorkton Union Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduation, Flora worked in nursing in Montreal, San Francisco, Hawaii, and Hudson Bay, before finally settling in Saskatoon. Flora spent 42 years in nursing before retiring in 2005 from the Royal University Hospital.

Flora was very proud of her three boys and devoted a lot of her years to them. They enjoyed many summer vacations at their cabin at Waskesiu Lake. Flora was especially proud that all three of them completed engineering degrees at the University of Saskatchewan.

Flora developed a love for dancing and could often be found at polka fests across Saskatchewan and Alberta. At one of these polka fests in 2002, Flora met a new life partner, Ron Carter (Cheryl and Shane Straton). They wintered in Yuma for many years where they continued their love for dancing and live music. Flora and Ron were together until Flora’s passing. Flora was also an active member of the Royal Purple and Wildwood Golf Course senior ladies group for many years.

As per Flora’s wishes, a small service will be held with immediate family to say our final goodbyes. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
