Eunice Melashenko passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2024 after a brave battle against leukemia.
Born Eunice Viola Berg on August 14, 1946, she grew up in the town of Congress, SK with her parents Gustave Adolph and Christine, and sister Marlace.
Eunice attended Teachers College in Regina, and spent her young adult years teaching in Earl Grey, Strasbourg, and Asquith.
She married Edwin Melashenko in 1969 and they would have celebrated their 55th anniversary this year. They had a deep bond and were inseparable right until the end.
Eunice and Edwin settled on the family farm near Arelee, where they raised their sons Richard and David. Farm life was new to a small town girl and she was proud of how she learned the ropes in the family business.
She was a loving, kind mother who would do anything for her boys. Later, she became an amazing grandma to Elliott and Samara, and loved doing fun activities with them and spoiling them any chance she got.
Eunice loved music and played the piano and sang. She spent a lot of time every year growing a huge vegetable garden and tending to her flowers. She was an excellent cook and baker, and was especially known for her holiday feasts.
Later in life, Eunice worked as a sales rep for a greeting card company and was well-liked by all of her customers. She could still put in a hard day’s work at the age of 76.
She was incredibly strong and brave. She always welcomed you with a big smile and positive attitude, even in hard times.
Eunice is survived by husband Edwin; son Richard (Hina) and their daughter Samara; son David (Chasity) and their son Elliott; sister Marlace (John) Zacharias and family; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at the RUH oncology ward and the Saskatoon Cancer Centre for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.A Private Service will be held at Cherished Memories Funeral Home.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is both honoured and privileged to be entrusted to the care of Mrs. Eunice Melashenko.
