With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of Erna Dotschkat, a loving mother and grandmother, and follower of Jesus. Erna went home to be with her loving Saviour at the age of 97 on October 11th, 2026.

Erna was born on April 20th, 1929, in Vohlynia, Poland. She grew up in an agricultural village with her parents, Natalia and Adam Zacharias and her siblings. In 1949, Erna came to Canada via Montreal with her parents and brothers. Their family settled on a farm near Jansen Lake, SK. 

Shortly after coming to Canada, Erna went to work as a live-in housekeeper for 3 families in SK. Her final position saw her move to Regina, where she worked for the Silverman family until she reconnected with and later married Adolf Dotschkat on May 30th, 1952. 

Together they farmed their own land South of Jansen and raised their five children. Erna took pride in gardening, cooking and baking for her family, and in crochet and knitting. She created many beautiful pieces for her loved ones over the years.

For the last 19 years, Erna lived in Elim Lodge in Saskatoon. There she built many lovely friendships, enjoyed prayer meetings, bible studies and continued to serve the Lord.

Erna was predeceased by her husband, Adolf; her parents, Natalia and Adam Zacharias; Sister, Martha; Brothers, Herman, Heinrich and Albert; Children, Erick, Ingrid, Herman and Erwin. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joanne Pelech and Karen Azure; 6 grandchildren, Kari-Lyn, James (Angie), Dawn (Andrew), Amanda (Mike), Bobbie-Lee (Tim), Mykala and Garry; 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Erna’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at RUH for the loving care Erna received.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Elim Church, 419 Slimmon Road, Saskatoon, SK.
