Edwin Leonard Neufeld, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Born in 1943 in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, Ed was the beloved son of Henry and Elizabeth Neufeld and one of nine children- eight brothers and one sister.
At just 16 years old, Ed left home and began working in farming, construction, and mining. In 1967, he married Carol Thrun, and together they welcomed two sons, Andy and Ron. Following Carol's untimely passing in 1972, Ed faced the challenges of raising two young boys while grieving the loss of his wife.
He later married Isobel Johnson, and although their marriage eventually ended, Ed remained deeply proud to have adopted her two children, Rob and Colleen, making them forever a part of his family.
In 1978, with the support of his family, Ed founded Warman Wood Products, building it into a respected woodworking business specializing in stair construction. His craftsmanship, attention to detail, and pride in his work earned him the respect of contractors throughout the Saskatoon area. Through the business, he also instilled in his children the values of hard work, integrity, and doing every job well.
In 1983, Ed married Florence Swain (nee Magnusson). Once again, he took on the role of father and dedicated himself to raising Florence's three young children, Christy, Natalie, and Ashley as his own. Together, Ed and Florence built a life on an acreage near Osler, where they raised their blended family.
Despite the demands of family life and running a business, Ed never lost his willingness to help others. Whether it was a neighbour down the road, one of his brothers, a friend, or a community organization, he was always ready to lend a hand.
After selling Warman Wood Products to his son Andy, Ed and Florence moved several times before settling in Borden, Saskatchewan. There, Ed finally pursued a lifelong passion that he had largely kept to himself- music. His guitar, fiddle, and harmonica became much more than hobbies as he joined several local bands, made lasting friendships, and enjoyed performing at venues throughout the area.
Never one to keep idle hands, Ed devoted countless hours to his community. He volunteered with the Lions Club, the Seniors Club, and the Borden & District Museum; a place especially close to his heart.
Whether using his woodworking skills, his knack for fixing almost anything, or simply his generous spirit, Ed quietly worked to make his community a better place. He helped maintain the town's recreational walking trail and spent many peaceful hours enjoying the paths himself. He earned the friendship and respect of many through his willingness to share his knowledge, skills, and, most importantly, his time. His contributions were recognized on several occasions by the Town of Borden and its residents for his outstanding volunteerism and community spirit.
Ed found tremendous joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved introducing them to music, taking them outdoors, and sharing time together. One of the reflections he recently wrote captures his humility and the pride he felt in his children: "My one regret is working too much and not spending more time with my children. They all turned out to be good people, and I'm proud of them."
Ed is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 42 years, Florence Neufeld; his children Andy (Bonita) Neufeld, Ron (Jody) Neufeld, Rob (Margaret) Neufeld, Christy (Jamie) Bumbac, Natalie Neufeld (Simon Lee), Ashley Neufeld (Gabbie Andrews), and Colleen Woelders; his grandchildren Ryan, Krista (PJ), Tanis (Eric), Jessica, Hailey (Brad), Devon (Tori), Clay, Jordan, Sam, Eric, Journie, Jorja, Sy, Baylee, Olivia, Hunter, Brayden, and Isaac; his great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Alex, Sadie, Jane, Owen, and Thomas, with two more eagerly anticipated later this year; his sister Betty (Mel), his brother Thundercloud (formerly Roger); and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended familymembers, and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Carol; his grandson Scott; his parents, Henry and Elizabeth; and his brothers Bill, Don, George, Bob, Wes, and Jack.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Borden Hall in Borden, SK, on August 11, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Borden & District Museum (c/o Borden & District Museum, Borden, SK, S0K 0N0) or the Hospice at Glengarda (https://sphfsk.ca/hospice/donate/).
