Dr. Raymond Butler, DVM, MA
Professor Emeritus
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Raymond Butler, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, on November 30, 2025.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 71 years, Doreen, whom he married in December 1954; his four children Jeff (Sandi), Kevin, Karen (Eldon), and Joanne (Bernhard); and seven grandchildren: Patrick, Robert, Lauren, Oliver, Scout, Rayne, and Leif.
Raymond graduated from the University of Guelph's Veterinary College in 1954 and spent 14 years practicing veterinary medicine in Dauphin, Manitoba. In 1968, he and his family moved to Saskatoon, where he joined the newly established Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. He went on to complete a master's degree in Continuing Education and served for many years as a dedicated professor.
In addition to his academic contributions, Raymond was a respected leader in the veterinary community, serving as President of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and helping organize the Western Canada Association of Bovine Practitioners.
After retiring, Raymond enjoyed travelling the world with Doreen and their great friends, Bill and Pat Eatock, and also spending time with his children and grandchildren. He touched many lives with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his profession. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Raymond's life will be held at a later date.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Dr. Butler's care and arrangements.
