Douglas Raymond Ward

June 14, 1949 — May 25, 2025

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Doug Ward, which occurred on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

Survived by his wife of 54 years Linda, sons Chad and Steve; grandchildren Taya, Liv, Quin, Ariel, Autumn; brothers Bob (Kathy) and Mike (Chris); sister-in-law Carol (Ron) as well as Nephews and Niece. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Irene, nephew Cody, and father and mother-in-law, Dan and Bea.

Doug grew up in Moose Jaw. There he met Linda when she moved into the house next door. They were married in 1970, and they moved to Saskatoon where Doug took Biological Sciences at SIAST. That took them to Brandon where Doug worked at the Brandon Research Center as Beef Cattle Technician for 35 years. Doug and Linda were blessed with two sons, Chad (1974) and Steve (1977). Every year Doug would take his family camping where nature was emphasized and explored. He kept active playing slow pitch, broomball, and coaching broomball. He was the president of the Brandon Broomball Association as well as a rep on the MABA. After retiring in 2007 new priorities were found. He joined the Brandon Wheat City Lions Club where he became the chairperson for the compost and fertilizer project as well as being instrumental in proposing an off-leash dog park. Among the hobbies that Doug pursued were fishing, hunting, wood carving, tropical fish, and gardening. In 2012 Doug and Linda moved to Martensville. Doug joined Sask Valley Ducks Unlimited as well as the Martensville & District Lions Club. He was always passionate about his volunteering and was honored by receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal in 2022. Doug was especially known for initiating the Lion's Walk for Dog Guides which is in its 11th year in Martensville.

In 2021, Doug was diagnosed with bladder cancer and was successful in beating that; however, this past January he received word that the cancer had spread throughout his body. He spent the last three months in palliative care at St. Pauls Hospital and Hospice at Glengarda where he received exceptional care. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks for all who visited Doug making his last days extra special.
