Obituary

It is with immense sadness but grateful thanks for a life well lived, that we share the passing of my husband Doug; Father, Grandfather & Great Grandfather.

Doug was born in Saskatoon and remained here for his 90 years, involved with community service clubs, craft guilds, ham radio, WDM Model Train Club, photography, pottery & volunteering for various groups meeting new friends along the way.

Family was Doug’s focus and he treasured all of us and the memories we made along the way will live in our hearts forever! He passed away surrounded by family and with the love of his life Marilyn of 70 years, holding hands and sharing the music of “The Last Waltz”

Lasting memories will live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Marilyn; his children, Lori Edmonstone (Ron- deceased), Alexandre Friesen(Wayne), Doug McLeay (Kim), Jim McLeay (Julie): His grandchildren, Derek Edmonstone (Eve), Rick Edmonstone, Meagan Elson (Stephen), Matthew McLeay (Taylor), Mitchel Friesen, Elizabeth Friesen. His Great Grandchildren whose hugs he loved dearly, Connor, Parker, Hunter & Walker Elson; Wyatt & Sawyer Edmonstone. Special sister-in-law, Barb Byers (Gerry Jones), & Karen Byers.

Doug was pre-deceased by his son-in-law, Ron Edmonstone, his parents, Irene & Sandy McLeay and his in-laws, Bill & Bea Byers, as well as his extended family, Bill Byers, Don & Faye Byers .

Doug’s career took him to RUH for his last 20 years before retirement and he passed away in the place he knew so well. As a family we are most grateful to all staff at RUH in Emergency and 6200 for their compassion and care and in particular to the 4th Floor Transition Units 2 & 3 and Dr. Barton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, who helped to guide us through Doug’s journey this past three years.

A gathering for friends and family will take place at a later date.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Doug McLeay's care and arrangements,
