Doug passed away peacefully at the age of 73. He leaves behind his loving wife, Joan; children Colleen (Anthony) Yuzwa, and Kurt Martyn and his partner Christine Tarasoff and her children; grandchildren Eleanor, Scarlett, and Harrison; sister Diane Earle, niece Christine (Tim) Hardy and their son Cole. As well as his MFC (My Favorite Cousins) Lesley and Stevo Tomporowski.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mel and Peggy Martyn, and nephew Wade Custer.
Doug was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, on October 19, 1949. His family moved to Prince, Reynaud, Parkside, and Prince Albert, before settling in Saskatoon in 1966.
Doug began his long career at CN in 1968, working in every position from crew clerk to train master, before retiring in 2004.
Doug met the love of his life, Joan, in 1981. They married in May of 1983, sharing almost 40 wonderful years together.
Doug enjoyed tending his yard, road trips with Joan, spending time with his grandbabies, and was always glad to stop and chat with anyone walking by. He was well known for his incredible memory and great sense of humour.
He will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed enough to have known him. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in memory of Doug Martyn to the Neurology Unit – Royal University Hospital Foundation 103 Hospital Drive Saskatoon, SK.
