Obituary

Donald James Thompson, 86, embarked on his final adventure on January 9, 2026, in Saskatoon, SK. Born on July 8, 1939, Donald danced through life's ups and downs with a spirit that remained unshaken, even when post-polio syndrome tried to step on his toes.

Don navigated a career as varied as Saskatchewan's landscapes, steering his way through farming, the oil and gas fields, and the long roads of truck driving. His life was a highway, and he rode it with a heart full of tunes and a trailer-load of kindness making lasting friendships in every community that he lived in.

He twirled through life with Dianne, his dance partner of 56 years, spinning around life's dance floor until post-polio syndrome slowed their steps. But even when his feet couldn't keep up, his spirit never missed a beat—Don loved to drop the needle on a good record, to cheer on a curling match, and brew up tales over coffee with pals. He enjoyed time spent at the lake and the menagerie of pets that joined the family along the way.

Don, always had a spark of mischief in his eye. He believed that while the highway might have speed limits, a grid road was a fast lane for crop watching. His Halloween costumes were legendary, hopping into a bunny outfit or swaying in a hula skirt at another event.

Leaving a legacy of love and laughter are his wife Dianne; daughters Tannis (Glen) and Dara (Terry); grandchildren Erin (Lance), Brittany (Brent), Troy, Chayse, Skylar (Toby), Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren Phoenix, Wesley, and Ember; sister Elva; and nieces Lora and Kelly. Preceding him in the great beyond were his parents, William and Milda Thompson, in-laws Herbert and Catherine Bien, and brother-in-law Henry DeGroote.

In true Don fashion, there will be no memorial service—instead, raise a cup of coffee in his honor, share a laugh, and if you're up for it, dance to your favourite tune.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Thompson's care and arrangements.
