Donald John Campbell

June 25, 1946 — January 31, 2024

In the early morning of January 31, 2024, Don passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

Don was born on June 25, 1946, an only child of Robert & Mary Campbell in Vancouver, BC. He spent most of his early life working for the federal government where he met and married the love of his life, Catharine (Cathy) Christian, on July 26, 1969. Don and Cathy would go on to have two children, James and Rebecca. Through job advancements in the government, Don’s job took the family throughout BC, Yukon and finally to Saskatchewan where they remained.

Don was offered early retirement in 1996, and he gladly jumped at the opportunity. Following this, he continued to work at various businesses that enabled him to spend his time on their acreage near Langham. Most recently, he was employed at the Loraas landfill near Martensville where he weighed in trucks and enjoyed being able to interact with his co-workers and the public.

His heart was broken on February 1, 2013, when his wife Cathy passed away. His life would never be the same. He loved to talk about her and the life they shared and in many ways time simply stopped for him.

Don continued to work right up until his admission to the hospital on January 14, where he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Until the time of his death, he continued to talk of returning to his acreage and his work.

He was a great storyteller who loved to tell people stories about his children and grandchildren, and various travelling adventures.

Surviving Don are his son Jim (Dawnne) Campbell, daughter Rebecca (Whitney) Friesen, and his four grandchildren Matthew, Simon, Julianne, and Braelyn.

At his request, there will be no funeral service. A private interment of Don and Cathy’s ashes will take place at a later date.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of Donald Campbell.
