David Peters passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2026, with his loving wife, Helen, by his side. He was born on August 7, 1953, in Rosthern, SK, to Judith and Peter Peters, arriving alongside his twin sister, Nettie. Dave grew up in Neuanlage, SK, attending school in both Neuanlage and Hague before moving to Saskatoon, when he married Helen in 1975.
Dave and his twin sister, Nettie, spent many hours doing chores together as children. Their father would occasionally discover that Dave had wondered off to the local garage to buy them both a drink. Their dad thought that Dave was always trying to get out of work, but it was an early example of the kindness and generosity that would remain with him throughout his life.
Dave worked briefly in construction before finding his calling as a tile setter. He began his career working with his brother Chuck, learning the craft that would become his lifelong profession. Eventually, he worked independently for many years, taking pride in the quality of his workmanship and the independence of being his own boss. Known for his early mornings, strong work ethic, and unwavering reliability, Dave built a reputation for excellence that earned the respect of his clients.
After retiring, Dave devoted himself to caring for the home he shared with Helen. She could always count on returning from work to find supper prepared and a salad waiting on the table. His familiar greeting — “Sit down and eat” — was a simple but heartfelt expression of his love and devotion.
Dave cherished the outdoors and spent many joyful hours at the lake. He helped his brother Dan build a cabin at Dore Lake, a place that became a treasured retreat for Dave, Helen, along with Dan and his family. Summers there were filled with laughter, relaxation, and friendly fishing competitions. Dave’s competitive spirit shone brightest on the water, whether he was catching the biggest fish or simply catching more than anyone else.
Golf was another lifelong passion. Dave loved the game not only for the challenge but for the time it gave him with friends and with Helen, creating memories that will be held close by all who shared those rounds. He also enjoyed playing cards, spending many evenings around the table with Dan and friends. When they were short a player, Helen was often recruited, becoming a willing participant in many spirited games.
At home, Dave found joy in gardening. He and Helen spent countless hours tending their yard and garden, taking pride in the beauty, they created together.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 51 years, Helen; his brother Harry (Darlene Ens); twin sister Nettie (Neil) Halava; sisters Martha (Ron) Ens and Esther (Ken) Doell; half-sister Jesse Hildebrandt; brothers‑in‑law George Reddekopp and Gerald Ens; sisters‑in‑law Kathy Peters, Doris Peters, and Anne Thiessen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Helen’s siblings: Betty Bueckert, George (Marlene) Niessen, Marie Faust (Ben Sen), and Shirley (Sal) Twordick.
He was predeceased by his parents, Judith and Peter Peters; brothers Dan and Bill; sisters Eva Ens and Sarah Reddekopp; sisters‑in‑law Marg Peters and Judy Funk; half‑brothers Jacob (Maria), John (Nancy), Peter (Katherine), Abram, Cornelius (in infancy), Chuck, George, and Jacob; and half‑sisters Tina (David) Neudorf, Anne (John) Neudorf, Margaret (Myland) Mitchell, Helen (George) Sawatzky, Mary (Abe) Neudorf, Elizabeth (Jacob) Janzen, Sue (Abe) Friesen, and Judith (Jacob) Thiessen and brother in law Bill Hildebrandt.
A special thank‑you is extended to Dave and Helen’s neighbours — Pat, Jan, and Brooklyn — whose kindness and support have meant so much during this difficult time.
