Dave Friesen was born on March 26,1933 on a farm east of Osler, Sk. He grew up with 5 brothers & 6 sisters and spent his childhood farming and playing ball.
Dave grew up in a Mennonite Christian faith home. He attended the Saskatchewan school district 99 up to grade 8.
Dave married Nettie Siemens on October 11,1958 and recently celebrated their 66th anniversary.
In 1954, Dave moved to Saskatoon, upgraded his schooling & worked at Stodola Concrete. He had a successful career as a heavy duty equipment operator, a dispatch operator & helped in the transition of Stodola Concrete to Revelstoke Concrete and did all this while farming 1,280 acres.
His talent for construction and design was evident in his home, farm and work. There was not a material that he did not master working with whether it was wood or steel. Whatever he built, it was built to last.
Dave & Nettie have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. They were blessed in being able to live on their own in their home until they moved to the Elim Lodge retirement community in 2023.
Dave loved to fish and was able to sit back, relax & enjoy God’s creation.
As a family, we enjoyed numerous camping & fishing trips as well as trips to Niagara Falls, St. Catherine’s and Disneyland. We could not get Dad off the rollercoasters, even at age 75!!
Dave was a member of the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Martensville, SK.
Dave loved his family, his Church, reading scripture, curling and cooking. He was never a complainer so his dislikes are hidden.
Most of all, Dad was very proud of his family. He especially enjoyed watching all his grandkids participating in various sports and activities and watching them grow into the people they are today.
Dave is survived by his wife Nettie (Siemens) of 66 years, his children Glenn, Darlene (Bill) & their children, Jordan, Gabrielle & Thomas, Kevin (Denise) and his children Raeann & Rylan, his twin sister Elizabeth and sisters Margaret, Justine & Nettie, his brother Walter (Janyce) as well in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Thank you to everyone who had a part in Dad’s life.
Special thanks to all the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital 5th floor and Oliver Lodge for their compassion and caring.
