Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darcy Kalinowski on June 9, 2026, at the age of 56.

Darcy was born on October 19, 1969, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Jim and Vicky Kalinowski. He grew up being doted on by his sister Sandy, and alongside his older brother Larry.

Darcy was predeceased by his father, Jim Kalinowski, and his mother, Vicky Kalinowski.

Darcy leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and partner, Kirstie Kalinowski; their fur babies, Catch and Spy; his sisters, Sandra (Frank) Korczak; his brother, Larry (Jan) Kalinowski; nephew, Lyle (Kari) Korczak, and their children Tori and Hudson; niece, Kristi (Greg) Connolly; niece, Jennifer (Warren) Chetek, and their children Tatiana and Nicola; in-laws Gord and Carol Tamblyn, sister-in-law, Tobi Tamblyn. He will also be deeply missed by his aunts, numerous cousins, and furry relations.

Darcy's early years were filled with sports, adventure, and the development of lifelong friendships. He had a passion for hockey, enjoyed gathering around his mother's delicious home-cooked meals, and treasured summers spent at Emma Lake, creating mischief and memories that would stay with him throughout his life.

After graduating, Darcy embraced his adventurous spirit by traveling throughout Australia for a year. Upon returning to Canada, he attended Lethbridge College, accomplishing his goal of qualifications for a career in justice and public service. He began his career in Corrections before joining the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, where he served for over 30 years with dedication, professionalism, and integrity. Over the course of his career, Darcy held many roles and responsibilities, working alongside many colleagues who became valued friends. He served through his leadership, commitment to service, and unwavering sense of duty to others.

Darcy met the love of his life, Kirstie, and together they built a life in Saskatoon filled with laughter, companionship and adventure. Their home was never complete without dogs and the quest for simple enjoyment. They found fulfillment working on home projects, being active, and planning their next travel adventure.

Darcy’s love of the outdoors was at the heart of his relationships. He treasured time spent at the family cabin at Emma Lake. The best days involved 18 holes of golf, a beer or two, and of course, storytelling. A barbecued steak or Rider game were simple joys of life, as were talking about his Oilers or the Jays. He cherished exploring the open road on his motorcycle with his brother Larry, golfing for quarters at Emma Lake with his lake family, tenting and hiking through national parks, and mountain biking along trails and the Meewasin.

Darcy was devoted to his animals—Wicket, Kona, Catch, and Spy—each of whom held a special place in his heart. A true dog lover, Darcy never met a dog he didn't want to pet, and a daily walk to the dog park was a routine that was an everyday pleasure.

He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit and approaching life with a playful sense of humour. He loved to share a funny memory and a laugh. Those who knew him won’t forget his unwavering integrity, love of family and friends, devotion to his dogs, and the countless acts of kindness that touched the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the people he served personally and professionally, and the love he shared with his family.

Darcy will be deeply missed, and forever remembered, by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thank you for the kindness offered by the nurses and staff at RUH.
