In Loving Memory of Christine Butchko

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Butchko of Saskatoon, age 75. Christine passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at The Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on the morning of August 12th, 2026.

Christine was raised in Ituna, SK, and never forgot her hometown, the family values she was taught, or the Christian faith that shaped her upbringing and throughout her life.

Christine was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She was a lover of the arts, including live music, theatre, movies, and all of the other beautiful moments that made life worth celebrating. Chris was an excellent athlete and excelled at curling, mini golf, and especially softball playing with the Patricia Pats in Saskatoon. She never forgot birthdays or anniversaries and made sure to send a card, make a phone call, and send a text or an email to share her love and best wishes.

Christine Maryann Helen Butchko was born in Melville, Saskatchewan to John and Helen Butchko on July 28th, 1951. Christine is predeceased by her father John Butchko, mother Helen Butchko, brother Richard Butchko, and numerous special aunts, uncles, and cousins to whom she was very close. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Annette (Lyle) Stecyk, niece Amanda (Darcy) Lodoen, Summer and Leo Lodoen, brother Mark (Lori) Butchko, niece Madison (Lee), niece Tamara (Nolan), her niece Candice (Dinolan) Klassen, Colton (Danielle) Klassen, Kimberly Klassen, nephew Colin Butchko, as well as, countless cousins, friends, and extended family.

Christine spent many years working for Home Care in Saskatoon where she cared for the elderly and the sick, which fulfilled her true gifts and passion. In her spare time, she could often be found attending or volunteering at her favourite annual events, including The Saskatoon Fringe, Saskatoon Jazz Fest, Shakespeare on The Lake, and other live theatre and concerts. She also devoted her life to being a loyal friend, and a mother figure and grandmother figure to her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Christine will always be remembered for her warmth, her independent spirit, her opinions, and her ability to find joy in the things she loved. She leaves behind a legacy filled with memories, music, laughter, friendships, and family bonds. She believed life was meant to be experienced to the fullest, and hopes everyone reading this will do the same. Christine will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Thank you to the Royal University Hospital staff, especially the neurology team led by Dr. Graham and Dr. Fitzpatrick, as well as the Unit 6300 nursing team for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Chris’ name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

A celebration of Christine’s life, and funeral mass, will be held at St. Philip Neri Parish, 1902 Munroe Avenue, Saskatoon, SK with Fr. Ed Gibney presiding on Monday, August 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Private Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church graveyard, Ituna, SK, at a later date.
