Obituary

It is bittersweet that we announce the passing of Cheryl Arlene Goshagar (nee Amendt). Cheryl Arlene Goshagar was born to Emil Leo Amendt and Edna Marlene Amendt in Saskatoon on July 1, 1963. She passed away quietly and peacefully on March 12th with family by her side. Cheryl was the third child born to Emil and Edna Amendt, and also the third daughter. She grew up on a farm approximately 6 miles southeast of Hepburn, completing grade 12 at Hepburn, graduating in 1981. Cheryl attended Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at the Hepburn Gospel Church, and gave her life to Jesus as her Lord and Saviour around the age of 11. She was baptized upon her confession of faith in the river down by the Patrofka bridge, along with her parents and sister Deborah, in August 1980. After several years of working as a house cleaner at a hotel next to the McDonald’s on Idywyld, Cheryl met her husband, Edwin Frank. They were married on July 20, 1985, and soon after, they welcomed with great joy their first son, Emil Edwin, born on August 6, 1986. Their second son, Keith. Travis arrived soon after that on September 29th, 1987. And finally, a precious baby girl was born, Megan Heather, on June 21, 1990. They lived in Saskatoon, and Cheryl eventually worked full-time at the Convelescent Care Home, and then transferred to Parkridge Home as a Housekeeper through SHA. She enjoyed her job a lot and chatted with residents on the job to encourage them and brighten their day a little. Cheryl made many friends at work and enjoyed visits with them even after she retired in 2021. She was so grateful to the Lord that she could spend more time with her granddaughter, Brianna, who was living with her. Ed and Cheryl became grandparents to Brianna Jade (April 3, 2007) and Melanie Rose (June 11, 2009). The girls referred to them as Papa and Gramma and brought great joy and smiles to them every day. Other things that Cheryl enjoyed doing were baking, working with flowers, taking care of her cats and hanging out with her family. Over the last couple of years, it was obvious that Cheryl was struggling a bit more with her health, and in 2025, she was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer. With her family by her side, she passed away peacefully into her Saviour’s arms on March 12, 2026.

Cheryl is predeceased by her husband Edwin Goshagar, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harriet and Edwin Gosghagar, Ed’s infant brother, Roderick Goshagar, her brother Emil Amendt and nephews Henry Amendt and Lee Amendt. She is survived by her parents, Emil and Edna Amendt, her children Emil & Christina Goshagar (Brett & Karissa), Keith Goshagar, Daniel Byers, Megan Goshagar, Brianna Goshagar & Melanie Stewart. She is also survived by her sisters Barbara (Gary) Ginther, Deborah (Gerald) Hamm, and her brothers Trever (Cyndi) Amendt, Glen (Angela) Amendt, Gregery (Amanda) Amendt, Cory (Kathi) Amendt, brother-in-law Ray Goshagar, and many nieces and nephews.
