Bud Benjamin Bachelder

June 8, 1941 — October 3, 2025

Bud Benjamin Bachelder passed peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 84. Bud is survived by his daughters, Cindie (Cory) Neudorf and Susan Bachelder, his brother Glen (Sheila) Bachelder, grandchildren, Benjamin (Laurel) Neudorf, Joshua (Becca) Neudorf, Emilie Neudorf, Samuel (Payton) Loch, and Jessica Loch, as well as great-grandchildren, Hunter, Alexei, Edward, Adeline, and Colter. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Bachelder, parents Russell Bachelder, Addie Bachelder (Philips), and his sister Wilma Wall.

Bud was born in Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan, on June 8, 1941, and grew up on the family farm. Bud’s early working days were spent on a horse-powered drilling rig, learning the grit and precision that would define his career. He and Dorothy moved to Assiniboia in 1966, where he later co-owned and operated Anderson Water Well Drilling. He worked long, hard days, but his pride in his work was always evident.

In 1979, they relocated Anderson Drilling to Prince Albert, where it operated until 1986. From 1987-2007, Bud and Dorothy turned their compassion toward a new calling when they opened their personal care home in Prince Albert, where they poured their life into over 80 seniors. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work and service to others.

Bud had a quiet confidence and determination that no matter what challenge arose, there was always a way forward if you were willing to roll up your sleeves and get it done.

He was also a talented welder, skilled at using a lathe, a capable mechanic, and a master of all things yard and home maintenance. His yard was a reflection of his care and pride, with every tree trimmed, every patch of grass tended, and every tool had its place in his garage (the sign on the table about his tools was hung in his garage). In Bud’s mind, everything was fixable or could be ‘rebuilt’ from motors to go-carts.

But what truly made Bud special was his willingness to help. He never hesitated when someone was in need. Whether it was fixing a neighbor’s engine, mending a broken fence, or lending a listening ear, Bud was eager to offer a hand. Not for recognition but because that’s who he was.

Above all, Bud was a family man. He was deeply devoted to Dorothy, which was so evident in his care for her in her final days. To his family, Bud was a source of wisdom and calm. He led by example, teaching: integrity is shown, not spoken; humor lightens even the heaviest load; consistency builds a good life.

In his final years, Bud made his home with Dorothy at Diamond House Personal Care Home. After Dorothy passed, he missed her tremendously but found comfort in visits from his children, grandchildren, friends and extended family. He was able to build strong connections with other residents and staff and a sense of belonging; he considered them his Diamond House family.

As we say goodbye to Bud today, our hearts ache with loss. We are grateful for the years we were blessed to share with him. We will miss the sound of his laughter, the sight of him tinkering in his garage or yard, his steady, calm demeanor. We hold onto the lessons and values he taught us. May we honor his legacy of working hard, helping others, and always finding something to smile about.
