Bruce Duane
Cowie
June 3, 1939 – April 11, 2026
Bruce was born in Melfort, Sask. to Sandy and Sarah (Baillie) Cowie. He received his elementary schooling there before the family moved to Wynyard, Sask. where he completed his education. It was in Wynyard that he became an apprentice linotype operator at the local newspaper office. He also married Darlene Doige and his son Tim was born. After the breakdown of the marriage, Bruce moved to Saskatoon to work in different printing companies. He married Robin Hartzell in 1966. They tried one winter in Kitimat but decided there was too much snow and moved to Calgary and eventually Cochrane. Bruce worked at the Calgary Herald until his retirement. They lived in Alberta until ill health and mobility issues made them move back to Saskatchewan 2018 to be closer to family.
Bruce and Robin loved to travel and their favorite place was Hawaii. Their favourite cruise was a barefoot cruise where they were part of the crew as well as guests. Their last big holiday was when they bought a truck and pull trailer to drive across Canada and spent a few months exploring the Maritimes where they enjoyed meeting all the interesting people. They were at their happiest when they were at their cabin at the lake-the first at Crimson Lake in Alberta and the second at Jackfish Lake where they enjoyed more visits from family and friends
Bruce is survived by his sister Linda Brooks, sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws Orlynn and Glen Lowndes, Pat Hartzell, Brian and Carole Hartzell and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his son Tim, wife Robin, sister and brother-in-law Betty Ann and Barrie McInnes, brothers-in-law Ross Brooks, Walter Hartzell and Dick Hartzell.
Life was not kind to Bruce in the last few years as his MS progressed and life became very limited. We are grateful to the staffs at Diamond House Care Home in Warman and Cozy Nest Care Home in Dundurn for all the concern and care they provided while he was with them. A special thank you to Kerry and John for always being there.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Bruce Cowie's care and arrangements.
