Obituary

Brian Neil Giesbrecht passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Brian was the beloved husband of Marlene Giesbrecht. They were married on October 10, 1970, and shared 55 years of marriage built on love, partnership, laughter, and deep devotion to family. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Jennifer Ferguson (Brian) and Taryn Rieger (Cory), and a devoted grandfather to his cherished grandsons, Brayden and Logan. Brian took immense pride in his family and found great joy in being present for every milestone, big and small.

Brian is also survived by his brother Lorne Giesbrecht (Joan), sisters and brothers in law Ron (Sherry), Faye (Al), Karen (Loren), Terry (Danielle) and Sherri (Quay), and numerous nieces and nephews who were so important to him. Brian was predeceased by his parents Irene and Cornelius, his sister Lisa and his brother Stan.

Brian met Marlene on a blind date in 1967, and together they built a wonderful life filled with family, friendship, and generosity. He was the ultimate host – always making sure the ice tray and your glass were full, a devoted dad and grandpa, an extremely hard worker, and a constant presence at family gatherings. He and Marlene traveled with family, creating cherished memories at Waskesiu, in Mexico, across Canada, the United States, and on a once-in-a-lifetime European adventure.

Brian will be remembered as the gentlest, kindest person many had ever known. He had a wickedly dry sense of humour and loved making people laugh – he especially loved to laugh at his own jokes. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing with family and friends, reading, watching and debating the news, closely following the stock market, and cheering on his teams the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers.

While we are heartbroken that Brian is no longer with us, we are profoundly grateful for the life we built together, the memories we shared, and the legacy of kindness, humour, and love that he leaves behind.

A celebration of Brian’s life will be held at a later date.

Our family would like to thank the amazing doctors and nurses in the ICU at St. Paul’s Hospital. They took exceptional care of Brian with compassion, and kindness. Their dedication, professionalism, and genuine care brought us comfort during an incredibly difficult time, and we are so appreciative of everything they did for him and for our family.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Giesbrecht's care and arrangements.
