Obituary

Blair Klarenbach, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on June 29, 2026 at the age of 65. Born on October 8, 1960, in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan, Blair’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and kinship.

Blair was raised by Herb and Helen Klarenbach in Loon Lake; growing up and into early adulthood, his favourite pastimes included playing sports and playing guitar in a local band. He fell in love with Marg Dunbar in high school; they were married for 44 years and loved to dance, laugh, and host friends and family. While he and Marg raised their four kids, Blair was involved in his community. He was chairman of the local school board for several years, served on town council and parish council, was an active member of the curling club and community dinner theatre, coached high school basketball, minor hockey and baseball, and participated in community dances and events.

Blair was a family man of many talents and passions. He spent most of his working years in the oil and gas industry, starting with Klarenbach Petroleum in 1983 and ending as a gas plant operator with Nuvista in 2009, when illness prompted early retirement. Blair loved sports and music, two areas of life he connected to deeply with his kids; he was an avid New York Rangers fan and enjoyed watching and discussing all sports, but especially hockey and baseball. His favourite pastimes included golfing, hunting and fishing, and many of his retirement years were spent on his pontoon boat, fishing or cruising the lakes with his friends and family. He loved tending to his yard and always appreciated a drop-in visit on the front patio.

Blair’s sense of humour was apparent to all who knew him. If he wasn’t telling a joke, he was laughing at one, and enjoyed sharing humour with people of all ages. He gave nicknames to countless individuals and was known to playfully tease his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. His greatest joy in life was being “Papa Blair”, and he cherished time spent with his grandchildren more than anything.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marg, their children: Scott, Jordan (Kristin), Ashley (Brendan) and Kelsey (Reg); grandchildren: Hugo, Otis, Alfie, Max, Luke, Emma, Lily, and Malcolm; brother, Ian (Laura), and sister, Donna; sisters-in-law, Kim Angus, Sandy (Arne) Baron, Ada (John) Setrakov, Kelly (Ken) Poulsen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Herb and Helen Klarenbach, his in-laws, Sandy and Mary Dunbar, his sister, Marie Klarenbach, brother-in-law, Don Angus, and nephew, Geoff Baron.

A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, July 23rd at 7:00 pm. A memorial service to celebrate Blair’s life will be held on Friday, July 24th, at 1:00 PM at the Loon Lake Rec Centre, with the inurnment taking place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Blair Klarenbach's care and arrangements.
