Our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Anne Kempin, cracked jokes, loved her family, told stories, gave advice, cooked, gardened, and was the matriarch of her family for 89 years. On July 25, 2024 she left this world peacefully surrounded by her children. Affectionately known to her family as “Mumma” she lived her life full of laughter, joy, love, and more than a little rebellion. Anne was born to Frank and Katherine Ens on December 5, 1934 on the farm in Rush Lake and grew up surrounded by the farm animals as her favourite playmates. Always one for hard work and education she held many interesting jobs throughout her lifetime in order to live the life she desired. She married Albert Kempin and started her family when Barry was born in 1954, next came Cara, Laurie, Wendy, Cathy, Greg, and David. The family moved off the farm in 1967 to Pennant, and she attended Teacher’s College and became an educator. Her first teaching job was on a Hutterite colony where she and her children enjoyed living with the community. Afterwards, she and the children moved to Saskatoon where she would live for the rest of her life. In Saskatoon, she worked hard and played hard raising her children to do the same. She worked as a care aide at Extendicare for many years and she also ran a daycare out of her home for over 30 years. She spent her life caring for people in every walk of life and at every moment of life. Strong, loving, stubborn, resourceful, wise, a lover of knowledge, a woman of faith, enjoying a loud stereo and a fast car, this is how her family will remember her. She is predeceased by her parents, her son Barry, and her son-in-law, Vern Frey. Here to honour her life and her memory are Cara Frey, her children Jeni (Kory) and Sean (Alison); Laurie and Dave Bartsch, and their children Mike, Shelley, and Matt (Kristen); Wendy and Ken Regier, and their children Marie (Mike) and Krissy (Jamie); Cathy and Neil Shadbolt and their children Melissa (James), James, and Joel; Greg Kempin and his children, Doug, Emily, and Windsor; and David Kempin. Seven children, thirteen grandchildren, and she was also blessed with eleven great grandchildren (so far) - what a legacy for an ordinary life and an extraordinary woman. Anne’s children are eternally grateful for the beautiful care that she received from the Glengarda Hospice for her end of life care.
