Nettie, as everyone knew her, was born Oct 26, 1929 on a Saturday at 2:30 am as recorded by her Grandpa Buhler. She was born at home on the farm, by Aberdeen.
Mom went to River Park school for grades 1 – 4, and Lily School for grades 5 – 8. After Grade 8, and being the oldest, she then had to help out on the farm.
She was baptized June 5, 1948 by her father.
Mom moved to Warman and worked for Dr. Wilken as a Nurse’s Aide starting in September of 1948. She worked approximately 1 ½ years before she married Peter Neufeld on Oct. 1, 1950. Mom lived in Warman from that time on.
She continued to work after they were married for 1 year until becoming pregnant with their first child of five, Ken.
After having 5 children, the youngest, Cathy, being 11 at the time, she was approached by the church and went to work at the Altenheim – as it was then named, as the House Mother and also working in the kitchen, from Jan. 8, 1976 until Oct 1, 1987.
She also did various other jobs for many people, painting houses and spring cleaning homes.
Mom was a person who was not afraid to help out whenever needed. She started the Bergthaler Ladies Aid with her mother’s help, and this club has been helping families for many years since. Mom also volunteered at the Warman Thrift Store
Mom always considered herself a shy person, especially after losing Dad. He was always the one that had to phone if they wanted to go somewhere. Even late in life, her phone calls were always brief.
Mom was a fantastic cook and baker, handing down recipes that we couldn’t always follow – what exactly is a “handful” of sugar? and always having baking in the pantry to enjoy or serve for Sunday visitors.
Mom moved to the Haven in 2010, helping with many things, including folding laundry, and driving many of her fellow residents to various appointments. She enjoyed going out with friends, especially Wednesday mornings, meeting Mary Guenter for breakfast at A&W, or later on just to McDonalds for coffee and ice cream, with grandkids and great grandkids. Mom had to say goodbye to many of her friends from the Haven over the years but was quite happy when Uncle Abe and Aunt Eva joined her there, visiting, playing games and always checking to make sure she was good. She loved being entertained by the various choirs and musical groups, and wanted to thank Corny & Mary Peters for their wonderful spiritual music over the years.
Mom especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She would happily go out to any of her kids, grandkids or even great grandkids various activities, soccer, hockey, ball, figure skating carnivals, or whatever anyone happened to be involved in at the time. She also really enjoyed getting picked up for family gatherings, happily just sitting back watching everyone interact.
Mom spent the last couple months in the hospital, enjoying the many visits from family and friends until she passed peacefully with family at her side.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Peter, sons Kenneth and Herb, son in law Tony Scott, grand son in law, Don Olson, both parents Abram and Aganetha Buhler and both parents in law Peter and Eva Neufeld, family members, Jake and Edna Buhler, David and Tina Buhler, Henry Fehr, George and Anne Buhler, Ben Bueckert, Lena & Art Grove, Betty & Isaac Regier, Mary & Ed Vellacott, Eva Peters, Dorothy Chabot, Diedrich and Helen Neufeld, Jake Neufeld, George & Vivean Neufeld.
